Opposition to Pope's Comments
    #6064667 -

"
In his speech at Regensburg University, the German-born Pope explored the historical and philosophical differences between Islam and Christianity, and the relationship between violence and faith.

Stressing that they were not his own words, he quoted Emperor Manuel II Paleologos of the Byzantine Empire, the Orthodox Christian empire which had its capital in what is now the Turkish city of Istanbul.

The emperor's words were, he said: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."

Benedict said "I quote" twice to stress the words were not his and added that violence was "incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul".

"The intention here is not one of retrenchment or negative criticism, but of broadening our concept of reason and its application," he added in the concluding part of his speech.

"Only thus do we become capable of that genuine dialogue of cultures and religions so urgently needed today."

This is pandering and untrue. Does the Pope even know the history of his own religion? I'm guessing he is conviniently forgetting certain facts that don't line up with the current world perspective...

Christianity and violence go hand-in-hand. Why else would the proper name of the Christian god, YHWH Saboath, translate to the Lord of hosts. Hosts is synonomous with armies, in case you were unaware. Why would YHWH instruct his followers MANY times to commit violence according to the Bible if Christianity did not support violence.

How religious views pander to worldviews is just more evidence for the lack of truthful inormation taught by religions.

Take it easy

I have to say, I've been struggling to come to terms with Islam. I really want to see them as a faith with the same core values as all religions, but when I look at the prophet Mohammed himself, I find some rather disturbing things about what he did. I have a copy of the Koran that I've planning to read, but if the practice of Islam today is any indication, I may find it rather disturbing. The Sufis, like most other mystical traditions, seem peaceful enough. But also like other mystics, they are marginalized group in Islamic society.

i love this development.

sure the christians had crusaders.
i don't care.

islam uses a word called "jihad"
which means holy war, which means killing infidels brings you closer to god.

and because of that one word "jihad" brought by mohammad,
the entire religion is absolute nonsense to me

any person who has faith in the power of God, does not need to touch weapons- the thing about islam is, the government is one with the religion.
while the american military doesn't stand behind some religious doctrine to explain their disposal of innocent lives.

when i heard what the pope said,
i jumped up and down screaming YEEEE!!! HAW!!!!!!

in another story,
it was just last month that the vatican said that Hitler was possessed by Satan.
Hitler and Stalin were possessed by the Devil, says Vatican exorcist

Adolf Hitler and Russian leader Stalin were possessed by the Devil, the Vatican's chief exorcist has claimed.

Father Gabriele Amorth who is Pope Benedict XVI's 'caster out of demons' made his comments during an interview with Vatican Radio.

Father Amorth said: "Of course the Devil exists and he can not only possess a single person but also groups and entire populations."

so that explains it

i'm starting to like this pope, lol

"In the past Father Amorth has also spoken out against the Harry Potter books, claiming that reading the novels of the teen wizard open children's minds to dabbling with the occult and black magic."

It's a damn book.

Hehe, the devil! Does that concept still exist?

I'd say that falls under "extraordinary popular delusions" and entire groups under "the madness of crowds"
