I used to pray that before i died medicine would invent a way to make humans live forever. How has there always been this fascination with immortallity, when it is so rediculous? If you think realistically about immortality, as in just to preserve the flesh, your then confronted with infinity.
On an infinite timespan, what has a chance of happening will happen. Whether someone somewhere actually finds a reason to kill you, or a meteor lands on your body, no matter where you hide, eventually, It will happen somehow. So for true immortality on a humane level you would need to possess a body that is resiliant to every possible method of death.

Living forever would be a total drag.

The desire to live forever is, I think, a spiritual thing. This is just my theory, I'm not trying to pass it off as absolute fact or anything, but it seems to me that the soul is infinite and that creates a fundamental conflict between the spiritual and the physical. In other words, if it were the natural state of sentient beings to begin and end with the body, then we wouldnt have any fear of death, because it would be natural. I dunno if I'm explaining that well or what, but that's my take.
