* Habitat - My garden, on tree stump which I suspect was a birch tree

* Gills - crowded, peachy orange

* Stem short, thick (1cm diameter when full grown) Moist texture

* Characteristics of the cap - diameter 7cm, color brown/lighter orange in patches, texture - slightly bobbled, flattish cap slight curve

* Spore print color - peachy orange

* Color that the mushroom bruises - no change

* Scent of the mushroom - damp, woodish

* Soft and easy to break

Any ideas as to what it is??

Looks like it might be a Cortinarious or maybe Tricholoma. If you really want to id this mushroom, more observation is necessary (gill attachment, veil characteristics, etc...)
On a side note, it's not active and should be considered poisonous.

It's hard to tell from your photo whether the underside of the cap has
pores or gills, to me though it has sort of a bolete look.
