Bartending Schools
    #6032686 -

Seem expensive. But also sound like they have some benefits. Has anyone had any expierience going to the certification classes.

they basicaly all cover variations of this.
# MIXOLOGY 150 Drinks
# OPENING/SET UP/CLOSING PROCEDURES
# FREE POURING
# CASH REGISTER & CASH HANDLING
# DRAFT BEER TAPPING & POURING
# BEER AND WINE LECTURE AND TASTING
# LIQUOR AND CORDIALS
# LAW AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
# GARNISHMENT PREPARATION
# SPEED TECHNIQUES
# CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND JOB COUNSELING
# HOW TO SET UP YOUR OWN BARTENDING SERVICE

Others have classes wich give you a TIPS certification, which gives you and your employers this.

T.I.P.S. is the only program used in all fifty states.
You will be CERTIFIED thru the HEALTHY COMMUNICATIONS, INC. ARLINGTON, VA.

T.I.P.S. can reduce liquor license violations
T.I.P.S. can decrease liability insurance costs.
T.I.P.S. offers a record keeping database that can verify your training.
T.I.P.S. CERTIFIED BARTENDERS find work faster than non-certified bartenders.
NO T.I.P.S. CERTIFIED BARTENDER HAS EVER BEEN SUCCESSFULLY SUED IN A LIQUOR LAWSUIT.

Classes range from 500 to 900 dollars. Wich i know you can earn back relatively quickly.

So whacha think about it?

Its very easy, for me I know alot of the "basic" drinks; so the class was a 2 hours session, just do identify drunkard's, know laws, and how too id fake ID's. This class was just too get your license, there was an optional class too learn drinks and proper tendage, lol. How too act in certain situations stuff like that. I didnt take that class, but the maditory one was pretty easy. Its worth getting your license and bartending is much fun. Drunkards tip very well. I get tipped in bud all the time.

you'll be laughed at if you walk into a bar talking about certification in 'mixology', go in and ask if they need a bottle jockey, they'll quiz you on
several drinks and shooters, usualy the popular ones, if you dont stumble
on them you'll get the job.

# MIXOLOGY 150 Drinks
# OPENING/SET UP/CLOSING PROCEDURES
# FREE POURING

freepouring, count to 7 as fast as you can and you've poured 1.5 ounces, a shot
a jigger or what have you, setup, cutting limes and lemons, closing, putting shit away

150 drinks... you'll remember 20, they'll be the popular ones, you'll mosly
serve beer, most people know whats in their mixed drink, theres always a book
behind the bar

Quote:
# CASH REGISTER & CASH HANDLING
# DRAFT BEER TAPPING & POURING
# BEER AND WINE LECTURE AND TASTING
# LIQUOR AND CORDIALS

dont steal, put the cash in the register, tips in the pocket
if you cant pour a beer, stay out of the bars, one inch of head, beerclean® for the rinsewater

wines, red, white, blush, add soda and it's a spritzer, would you like a poptop or a pulltab :smirk:

# LAW AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

noel law, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for cutting off people that are dangerously drunk, they wreck, you pay.

more lemon/lime cutting, olives, onions, stupid little sword picks.
cuba libre gets a lime or it's just a rum and coke, salt rim on a greyhound is
a slaty dog

youll learn speed in the rush, invest what you can, bartending is now money,
there is no retirement, yellow pages, career development is job placemtn, you'll
be a barback because you went to a school.

very few bartenders get sued, usualy it's the stupid ones. dont serve drunks.

not too bad but it's still a ripoff, just start hitting the bars and asking for
a job, you may start as a barback but it wont be long before you know the bar
and it's clientelle, the drings and procedures, you;ll also have respect from
other bartenders

most places it's pay the fee, pass the background check (no parolees) and you've
got it, it's issued to the person at the establishment, nontransferable

I agree with that Pris. A lot of the owners around here want some form of certification, It saves them cash on liability n all that. I figure if i can find the basic alcohol safety course, even though i went to a DUI class and learned all about alch.

I know i can swing it on my own. Got plenty of friends that will help me out with drinks. I will go out and see if i can score some barback jobs to get some expierience behind the bar. I got plenty infront of it.

I bet that helped you get the DUI class :smirk:

if you can go through just the TAMS or TIPS courses you'll be fine, thats all they're looking for

i went to bartending school and it was completely unneccessary.... none of the bars (at least the ones in this town, with one exception that i know of) give a rats ass about tips or tams... i'm tips certified it didnt help me find a job... i just lucked out and got a job tending at the hotel i used to work at because they are in a bind... its a shitty place to bartend, especially in the coming off season months... but it will give me the experience i need to get a real bartending job

bars generaly have huge liability policies, the 'training' really does little good
nothing that a little brochure cant educate you on
