Listen to the songs of the Planets and Stars

It sounds like a dreamer's dream, but you actually can.

The above .zip file contains the actual sounds of planets, stars and black holes, as recorded by radio telescopes around the world, and directly extrapolated to our range of hearing, without artistic liberties having been taken.

This is not a new-age thread but an old-age thread: these sounds have been around for billions of years and will be around for trillions more, and may of the sounds have traveled space as radio waves for thousands of years before reaching the ears of science.

SETI scans the skies with computers listening for patterns, but if they were to put the Universe on speakers, this is how it would sound.

My favorites are the eternal pull of the black hole, the chirping of Jupiter's magnetosphere and the spherics, tweaks and whistles of deep space.

Truly majestic is the "heartbeat" of the sun, if you can both afford a subwoofer and can afford to crank it up loud.

Listen to it and speak your mind. If you have a source for more unaltered space sounds, please post the links. These files unfortunately are imageless Flash files (.swf) which I could not convert to mp3. Your browser or flash player ought to be able to play them though.

We're locking up kids sometimes for life for their first drug offence. We have no room in our prisons for rapists and child molesters and murderers cause we're filling them up with these non violent drug offenders." - Steven Duke, Yale Law School on 'Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How They Got That Way'

argh... why do they have to be swf? That's so horribly obtuse. :frown:

*edit* and I have to add that the pulsar sounds shockingly like somebody knocking on wood.
