I've never listened to the grateful dead
    #2659509 - 05/10/04 02:44 PM (13 years, 21 days ago)

but seeing the mad devotion many of you display here, I figure I should hear what I'm missing. What are four or five songs that a dead newb should download to introduce him to the band?

I'm a big phish fan, Tre is one of my alltime favorite guitar players, btw.

I couldn't pick 5 songs. I say get a show from 73, one from 77, and one from the 90's just to show different setlists and different styles throughout the years although still the dead through and through. From 73 try to find a show with weather report suite, china cat->rider, and here comes sunshine if you can. 77 look for music never stopped, and well any 77 is good. And as for the 90's look for some later classics like so many roads, lazy river road, eternity, and liberty.

Find LIVE Dead to dowload and listen to, if your tripping that's a plus. To fully appreciate the Dead, it has to be live!!
