Someone who I've known since grade school has recently hitched himself onto the New Age cultus of David Icke with absolute religiosity - almost over night. His room is draped with a giant poster depicting the Eye of Providence with 5 extending hands, each grasping a gun, a film reel, a wad of money, a dagger, with the center most hand manipulating a string puppet.
These minions Illumanti conspiracism believe that there is an alien elite that controls much of humanity's affairs, from political systems to spirituality. They believe George W. Bush to be a pawn of the Illuminati (and some even believe him to be a 6 foot 3 intelligent reptile disguised as a man), along with Tony Blair and the Queen of England. Freemasons, Lion's and Rotary Clubs are apparently also included in the "Bigger Picture". One of most dangerous and malicious fraud's in recent history, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, also have a disturbing influence on this New Age though. Among these theorists, it almost impossible for them to ignore the geopolitics of the State of Israel, ironically.
It is known Adolf Hitler was also influenced by the Protocols. Through out the Arab world, in particular Saudi Arabia and Syria, the Protocols is also in consistent print and its governments are fairly amiable to the distribution it. It's a bit different though in the East. Fundamentalist Muslims don't believe in Aliens, rather the crimen exceptum is a Satanic one, controlled by Satan, Jews, and the ever-so indefinable crusaders who are attributed to a Roman conspiracy in the minds of some Islamist conspiracists.
September 11th, the Kennedy Assasination, the Mayan Calender, and Al Qaeda, nothing seems to escape the "Bigger Picture" that conveniently falls into piece like John Nash's mathematical visions. The war in Iraq, Lebanon, Halliburton, Skull and Bones, Osama bin Laden, the JonBenet Ramsey case and even the defense of rambling bums who vent about CIA chips in their brains. All of this, is apparently incidental.
Anti-Semitism has a long sad history that acts something like a demonic cloud that masquerades itself in good intentions. It works its way into the most bizarre ideological diatribes that act like hosts, from nationalism, economy and politics to religion and philosophy. In the past few years given the intensity of the Israeli-Arab conflict, Far Left wing activisits (ironically as opposed to those on the far Right) have don'd sandwich board signs depicting the Jewish State devouring the planet like an octopus. There is even a greater irony in the popular depiction of Israeli leaders wearing swastika armbands. While certainly there is legitimate criticism of the actions of any government in this world, there is something seemingly cloudy and familiar in the world community's obsession with the Middle East conflict, and in particular the fixation some have with Israel. Thousands will tout "I don't hate Jews, I just hate Zionists" without even knowing an iola of history regarding the word itself or even consideration of the possibility that Jews simply went to the Middle East to avoid either progroms or organized genocide.
Historically, Jews were blamed for everything. From the collapse of governments and economies to highly subjective events resulting in witch hunts and other lynchings. Like the wack-job Illuminati conspiracy, whose official position is that Jews are as much a victim of the conspiracy as gentiles are, classical anti-Semitism basically adhered to the same paranoia minus the science-fiction and political correctness.
Interestingly, the only man who remains untouchable from this idiocy is Jesus of Nazareth. To the theorists, he's either the aeon sent to expose the Illuminati, expose the evil O Rly owl, or something that is generally amiable towards Jesus, yet utterly insane. After all, only a complete mad man would say something ill about humanity's archetype of Compassion and Kindness.
