building my own pc (for audio)

I want to build my own computer so i can record music.
I'll need it to be good enough to run quite a decent amount of tracks with vsti's and effects. I'll be using things like albino, battery and reaktor.

Does anyone have a rough guess how much it will cost to build such a computer?

Most of the costs of such a computer are in the keeping it cool while keeping it silent. I think that in the case of audio/video creation and editing it is best to get an SMP (dual CPU) unit. This of course can be done real cheap with a couple Athlon MPs or you can invest in Intel/AMD dual CPU (not just dual core) workstation.

The best case for such a computer is of course the top of the line Koolance water cooled case. Its gonna be a heavy fucker. It will however be dead silent. You will be able to agressively overclock your precious babies without fear of massive temps under load. My dad has had a P4 2.4 ghz at 3.266ghz for at least 3 years now. Runs really cool.

A more affordable option is the Antec Sonata case. But remember your going to have to line it with neoprene... buy fans, get drive silencers etc.
