New hdd craped out
    #5963936 - 08/14/06 08:01 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Ok, I just got a new WD sata hdd last week. It worked fine for a week and now bios wont recognize it. I managed to clone my old hdd and it worked fine until I was trying to copy some data back over to the original.

During this I was unplugging the power from the old drive and plugging in the new drive (while the power was on ) so I wouldnt boot into the new drive. Other than the new drive probably being fried, can anyone think of any other reason why it may not be being detected.?

BTW, are sata cables hot swappable?

The SATA specification allows drives to be hot plugged. http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_us/documentation/white_papers/sata_hot_plug_white_paper.pdf
