Australian season begins!!!!
    #592538 - 03/29/02 03:29 AM (22 years, 24 days ago)

Gday! I went for a quick hunt today and after finding lots of tiny primordia at my local Ps.Cyanescens patch which is pretty good if your patient, i walked by the local Subaeruginosa variant patch and had some success - as the below picture demonstrates:

Pretty much your average Subaeruginosa, but with some interesting characteristics. Obviously, Subaeruginosa as described by Cleland is dark brown with a long thin stem and a cap that never goes plain or uplifts - only to boradly convex . This mushroom has a Lighter coloured cap than normal for Subaeruginosa, with close cream coloured gills even on sporalation, rather than the crowded dark brown gills of Subaeruginosa proper. Also this mushroom does not fade hygrophanously to a near bone/white colour, but dries to a straw colour. It is broadly umbonated and goes plain to partial uplift at maturity.
It has a ring of small pores around the middle of the cap and its gills are attached ascending, sinuate to adnate. Some resemble azurescenes

Looks like you forgot the pic, bro  (or it's over the size limit)

Well it sure has been raining hard for a few days here. I went for a walk this afternoon, through the rain in a local paddock. The same paddock that I found the Panaeolus antillarum featured in a previous thread. Well I found a couple of sorry looking, drowned antillarum but nothing else. I think it's a bit too wet. Although there is no evidence that this paticular field produces Psilocybes, I'm remaining confident. There seems to be a fair bit of fungal activity there, tho only the antillarums and a few other unidentified LBMs. I'll wait for a break in the rain, and go hunting with the first rays of sunshine (whenever that may be)

Happy hunting all.

nice find bluemeanie. I was wondering if Subaeruginosa stain blue also? Is this a good identifier when hunting wild shrooms?
Also If anybody would like to point me in the right direction to some Fruitful spots in the sydney area, It would be much appreciated.
happy hunting, Matt.b

Nice find.
It's been too wet here, but over the next few weeks there should be heaps around.
Have a great weekend all Hunters.

that does necessarily mean, however, that they are definatly consumable though right?
i mean if i go out and find some blue to black bruising shrooms, i certainly can't be confident i can eat them and not get sick...

Well, i know they are psilocybes, primarily because from their look and their spore-print and blue-staining I know they are safe - what's more this is a regular shroomer's patch for over 6 years!! :-)

very nice bm!.....all I can find is lots of toadstools lol....

& I think the local council treats the woodchips in the public gardens with this bright reddish-brown anti-fungal stuff, so no luck there....
