NSW P. Subaeruginosa Season Begins...
    #4029173 - 04/07/05 11:35 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

decided to go on a road trip to check the successful spots in the mountains from a couple of years back today...

everything was dry and, frustrated, i almost gave up... until i spotted a couple of fresh young subs within 10m of my final spot! a couple turned into a reasonable number.

i then checked under some scrubs nearby, and found a motherload of nice sized subs!

the season has just begun, although they're only popping up in the really moist, really shaded areas at the moment.

pics to come tonight, hopefully

Do they contain aeruginosine as well? (which is 4-phosporyloxy-TMT)

Your secret spot is going off hey. Please post up some pics.

I haven't found any yet but it's heaps of fun hunting. Where did you say you found your ones again?

Aeruginascine is from the European species Inocybe aeruginascens, a completely different mushroom than the Australian species known as Psilocybe subaeruginosa.

btw, some specimens of the P. cubensis from Ban Hua Thanon strain I brought back from Thailand also has a new indole in it and no one has yet worked further on it since Dr. Stijve discovered it and is now retired. So until someone follows up on his research it remains unidentified.

Thanks for the info MJ and sorry for the mix up,i got fooled by the "subspecies name" and forgot it was an inocybe...

Is there any chance of you identifying the new indole? Im hearing you are doing some research in Thailand but i dont know if your research is only on morphology or if you can run a chromatography on some short and have an educated guess on the compound...

Good to hear Jimbu!
I'm pretty surprised you've made a good find so early.. it's been pretty warm in Sydney with not a great deal of rain. I wasn't going to bother hunting for at least another couple of weeks.
But your report is very encouraging!

I do have a cheromatogram somewhere of the new indole. Not sure where the chromatogram is. Maybe I will look for it this weekend.

Hey guys,

While i'm from sydney, i don't actually do my hunting in sydney. I've never had much luck here (only ever found a single sub). My spots are up in the mountains, which makes it a little frustrating if i don't find anything (1.5+ hrs drive each way). It's also frustrating when you have a car accident only 10 minutes from home... :frown:

Luckily the mountains have been receiving a drenching recently (100mm 2-3 weeks ago, and 30mm earlier this week). The temps there are also fairly cool already at this time of the year (although probably not yet optimum for subs).

Anyways here are a couple of photos of semi-dried p. subaeruginosa from yesterdays hunt. unfortunately i didn't get a hold of the camera in time to take photos of them fresh.

i tried to be a bit artsy... :P

happy hunting,
jimbu.

Wow nice, when you say mountains i am assuming you mean the Blue Mountains? Any thing i can look for up there if i go hunting, obviously abiding by rules, nothing specific.

rocknliam - anywhere with altitude (eg. the blue mountains) is going to have colder temperatures at this time of the year than sydney, which is much more suitable for fruiting p.sub's. i'd recommend you look in woodchipped areas in parkland and/or pine forests/plantations after some decent rainfall.

Jimbu - We had some rain in sydney today, not sure if it did much in the blue mountains. I will keep an eye on the weather and next time there is some rain i might head up there. Thanks.

Notorius - Well at least we are getting it a little earlier in Sydney, to make up for the massive ammounts you get down in Vic.

Never been succesfully hunting yet, but i will definatly be giving this a go. Peace.
