http://www.sptimes.com/2006/07/26/Worldandnation/Bill_blocks_seizure_o.shtml

the majority shouldnt have been sitting in their homes, waist deep in water in the first place. this isnt about peoples right to defend themselves. its about republicans scrambling for solutions to ease NRA and gun owners bickering about their right to bare arms. im as big of a second amendment guy as the other but ill play devil advocate here and say that during a shitstorm that went on after katrina you should have to suck it up, and for being an idiot and not leaving when you were given a chance, your problem.

Firearms are the only thing that enabled the respectable and responsible citizens of New Orleans to defend their property during the catastrophe.

From my cold dead hands!

it's either a right or it's not. no bullshit exceptions. imo, guns are especially useful in such situations. you're obviosuly not as big of a 2nd ammendment nut as the next guy. thank christ our legislature did something worthwhile.

Yes, that's the way things were intended to work. Of course, it hasn't prevented congress from letting the current administration blow the bill of rights full of craters (the 4th ammendment was hit especially hard by the patriot-act-mandated carpet bombing)

No way. New Orleans was turned into 1800 and the only thing keeping the good people from the bad at times was a rifle or a shotgun.

The cops ran in there and took the guns from people that frankly needed them. They also never disarmed the thugs. They disarmed old ladies and people protect their houses and blocks. The police still have not given alot of people back their firearms either. I am sure they are sitting in some officers closet too.

Also you cant predict a huricane just like you cant predict a earth quake or a riot. Shit just happens sometimes and you might as well prepare for it.
