A few questions on outdoor growing parameters

A freind of mine lives way out in the woods, and he wants to grow an outside crop this summer. He found a big huge creek valley with a very humid enviroment(around 70%) There is an exellent spot underneath a bunch of willow bushes that is virtually invisible. The temp would be around 60-65 at night, and 70-75 in the day time. Here is the plan: he will obtain some fully collonized pf cakes, and make some strait verm casing, and let colonize in temps around 80f. Can I just put them outside once there done? That should be the right temp drop to initeate pinning, am i correct?I will incubate with tinfoil over top, so there wil be a drop in co2 as well. I'm wondering..can I just leave them uncovered, or should i use the hawk outdoor tek cover thing(The one that goes over top the hole to provide the right evviroment). Will ther be enough moisture without the top i'f i spray once and a while. Thx for any advice. I basically just want to clarify wither it will work r not.

Do you mean leave the cakes exposed? I don't think that would be a good idea.... I grew an outdoor crop a few summers ago... dig a little hole...crumble and bury the cakes...cover with vermiculite and pine needles or leaves....mist every so often or put some perlite around the edges for humidity.

I wont leave the cakes exposed. I mean the casing. It says to cover with a transparent lid. Like, put it over top of the hole. I was wondering weather i can leave the hole exposed, withour covering, but I think you pretty much answered my question. Thx, glacius

Don't use brf/verm.. that is beginner low yield stuff.. use grains.. birdseed, rye, etc.. in bulk, expanded to manure or compost.. etc..

BRF works better outside, less attractive to bugs and slugs etc, especially compared to grains in straw/dung etc. Companion plants such as tall grasses help keep the humidity high. And one of the points of a casing is that it provides a MICROclimate of high humidity. Remember that fungi grow in nature all the time. Just help them find that perfect cow pin in that perfect patch of grass...

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

mycofile: Thats exacly why I picked that area. They will be growing underneath ton and tons of deciduous plants. Like everywhere there is some sort of plant growing, so I think that it might just be albe to keep humidity up.
