something to produce bass besides a bass guitar?

im looking for something to make bass like a drum machine for drums or samplers for other stuff. if anyone has any recommendations please post. (fruity loops and the like are out of the question).

i dont know. im looking for the bass sounds heard in rap/hip hop music. would a bass synth produce this type of sound?

If budget isn't a problem, looking into getting Reaktor 5. You can create your own synth or use one of the 60 instruments that come with Reaktor. Watch the trailer of Tim Exile to get a good idea of what can be done with Reaktor.  :thumbup:

If you want a hardware synth, i suggest going to a music store and playing around with everything there. there's a HUGE range of capability and price in the synth world.

but if you want a vst (virtual software synth), I'd look into Novation BassStation.

really all you need is an oscillator.

basically, all a synthesizer is, is combinations of oscillating wave patterns with EQ envelopes, and a variable resonance and frequency cutoff (hi-pass filter).

So, really all you need to make a bass sound is a variable frequency oscillator (which you could make, or buy for under 10 bucks) and some form of EQ, the more bands the better.

I have helped out a few bass-less bands by using the kick drum to trigger a Key/gate to an arpeggiated-bass-sounding oscillator tone.
