finding straw...

now, i thought i saw the answer here somewhere, but i'm not having any luck.

were can one find wheat straw in a moderatly urban area. a checked a few petstores, and most beddings are synthetic, or alfalfa straw (this ok?). i found some a craftstore chain, but at $5 for a bale the size of a small cynder block it seems a little pricey.

just curious if i'm missing something, it's not like there are any feed stores around here.

Any straw will work wheat is the best followed by oat and barley straw, you can get mini bails of straw at arts and craft stores or you will need to go to a feed store and get a large bail, vendors here on the shroomery sell it also.

Let us know how alphalfa works out. My friend and I surmised it may be too 'hot' for myc.

petsmart has "Timothy Hay" I have heard that it works.
