The Black Flag roach bomb works fine and dandy. Get everybody out for a few hours and gas the place--then wash all of your dishes and get a new toothbrush. If your room mate can't or refuses to get the doggie dipped or collared for fleas, well, man... you got a challenge to surmount, there. Until he does one or both of those actions, you get sidestream fleas

Frontline works best, or a flea collar. That will take care of future fleas. The problem is that they're already all over your house, in the carpets, laying eggs - you have a serious problem.
You should get front line for the dog, give it a flea bath and then put it on, and then flea bomb the house and keep an eye on the dog for a while to make sure theyre gone.

The best solution is to get your roomate to wash his dog. The next best solution is for you to wash his dog. The next best solution is to get rid of the dog.
If you have some balls, go for #1.

I cant stand to sleep amognste bugs---I would rather wash the dog myself then get bitten up all night. NOt only for me but for the dog as well----that must be dreadful. IM sure if you asked him and he refused, he would reconsider when you propose to wash it yourself. After that do a good vacuum and maybe a flea collar.

Been there, done that. Fleas are tough to get rid of. By now, they've laid eggs all over your place and insecticides don't bother eggs at all.
The only way to get rid of them is to toss EVERYTHING in the laundry, including bedding, vacuum everywhere, including all the furniture, and have the dog treated by a vet.
The vet will use prescription systemic insecticide that will kill adult fleas and a systemic insect growth regulator to attack new fleas when they hatch.
Once that's all done, you have to wait for the current batch of eggs to hatch, then repeat the process, possibly twice.
To prevent reinfestation, you have to treat the lawn where you or the dog walks too. That's probably where the infestation started when a flea hitched a ride on your pant legs or on the dog, then laid eggs in the house.

Fleas freak me out. I've seen some pretty bad infestations. If you don't want to wash your dog to get rid of the disgusting infestation, take it to a groomers. You can have your apartment bombed while the animal is out of the house.
And this will be in reply to Diploid but I'm too lazy to go back and click on the original posters name.
