when to start an outdoor patch?

I live in zone five climate and wanted to know when would be a good time to start an outdoor EQ patch? Also what would be some interesting things I could spawn them on(logs, wood chips, etc.)?

If it drops below 45 for a day or two will it ruin my patch? Is there a good way or resource I could use to measure the temps?

A good website or method of coming up with the temps without having to check a thermometer all the time?

I can't really be checking a thermometer all the time at night really. Any ideas or a good gadget?

No, it will be ruined if it freezes. On the other hand the optimum temperature is in the eighties, so I would start now, and when you have the spawn in a couple of weeks, the temperature will be just right to spawn the outdoor substrate.

the weather network. google "<insert your city here> weather". end up with forcasts without actually measureing yourself this is as good as it gets. then wait till you are in rage of the previously mentioned conditions. ive been planning a log grow. the log is mostly rotted out im going for an interesting scene more then what is best. but theres plenty of space for poo in the log haha. then i can basically case the log haha.

I already have some popcorn grain colonizing for a bulk grow I'm doing inside and want to know if I can use the spent casing to spawn on to some h/poo outside? Will animals be a big problem and if so what measures can I take to keep animals away?

I have a huge pile of old logs from a very large tree I cut down about 5 years ago is there an easy way I could grow some EQ on em?

No.
You could grow oysters or shiitake on the logs.
