Spammers

I always hear of people selling email lists to spammers, but I mean wtf? It's not like you look in the yellow pages and look up spammers.

How do people even know who these 'spammers' are. I'd like to get in ontact with one, and see if he'll correspond with me. I'm curious as to why they do it.

Any ideas?
