unmature flowering

if you induce flowering when a plant is unmature will it not show its sex untill it has matured? will it mature faster if the plant is put into flowering? thanks for any help

a plant can be put into flowering at just about any stage of its life. (I don't know if anyone puts it right into flower after it sprouts though.) But the plant should show sex within a week or two of flowering, it doesn't matter how long it is vegged for.

sprout a seed and as SOON as that seed pops through the soil put it in 12/12. see if it shows flowers in just two weeks. lol  no, it will only flower when that specific plant is mature enough to do so. LOTS of people start sativa dominate strains at 12/12 from seed. LOTS  of people :wink:

i had to flower my plant early because of unexpected time problems. it didnt have alternating nodes yet and its been in flowering for a week and it still doesnt have any characteristics of a male or female. i have it on 12/12 and the 12 hours of darkness it is completely dark. i guess only time will tell.

I started 12/12 on a plant once when it was 3-4 inches tall, it didnt start showing sex until 3-4 weeks later. Im pretty damn sure they wont flower unless they are mature enough to do so. Thats why clones are so great! :smile:

Taskenti is right, just try different plants and flowering them. I'm sure some will show sex after a couple weeks, some maybe a month. Which is why genetics are so fun to see in different plants. Do you have any specific strain or just some bag seeds?

Even if you where able to flower a plant sooner than 10-14" in height, total harvest would be severely reduced, as most of the root and leaf growth occurs during vegetative stage. And its these leaves and roots that provide the energy for bud growth. 12" is said to be optimum height for indoor growth, but you may want to start heavy, long flowering saliva's at 10". Depends on how much height/time you have. Saying this though, a bit of pruning will keep the height down, and not hanging your lights to high will stop them becoming 'lanky'.
Most of my plants flowerd at this height will show their sex at 1-2 weeks after light cycle is changed. Remember to change the nutrients you use as soon as you change the light cycle, this will encourage quicker flowering.

I'm also planning on starting a grow. So if I understand this correctly I can only see the difference between male and female once the flowering starts. So if I grow my plants to a good height and start flowering I have to throw half of them away, right? It would be easier if I could sex them earlier then I could make better use of the growlamp.

you can see preflowers before flowering period on plants, but this varies some from genetics to genetics. some show sign of preflowers after 4-5 weeks in veg state some just doesnt do that.

Your best bet is to take cuttings from a female plant that you like. Then you should get females all the time. Unless you use a feminixed seed, they sometimes produce hermi plants.

Start your plants, when they get big enough to take cuttings from them, then take cutting from them and let em root a little and put the CLONES into a 12/12 cycle(make sure you mark them to each corresponding plant). Then when their sex shows you know which plants that are still in veg are male or female. but take like 3-4 cuttings from each plant, and only bud 1 of those 3. that way you already have clones vegging and you know their sex also, so you can throw them in 12/12 sooner. Hope that made sense to you.
