Question For TennStud or anyone

Which TennStud Subtrate is better, The regular Pre-Pasturized Sub. or the 50/50 mix. Or am I getting this all mixed up and I'm supposed to use the 50/50mix as a casing.

Ok you have two types of 50/50 hehe, one is Tennstud 50/50 SUBSTRATE the other is any type of casing mixed in proportions of 50/50 there are both Peat/Verm and Coir/Verm 50/50 CASINGS.

As for which Tennstud product is better, it depends IMHO if you plan to buy Pasteurized or not. If you plan to Pasteurize yourself may as well buy just poo, and get straw and pasteurize it together yourself seeing as how straw is cheaper than dirt. If you are buying pre-pasteurized then it depends on your preference, the straw as I understand it is to fluff up the poo. You can also achieve that with a little vermiculite or by being attentive to your water levels.

I ordered Poo, from what I have read most order straight poo, but others swear by straw. The main reason I stayed away from straw my first grow is that straw seems to have bad rep for contam rate. As this is my first I didn't want to mess with that.


In the end read alot about poo techniques see how people fluffed up their poo, and read grow logs with poo involved. I hope I was of some modicum of assistance.

Ya that helps a lot, so say if it went with the 10lbs of 50/50 I would be able to get a lot more use out of it because its fluffier as opposed to straight poo. Like if 10lbs of straight poo only filled one tub, the 50/50 might fill 1 1/2 to 2 tubs all hypothetically speaking. And also the straw is more susceptible to con tams, and its probably not as nutrious as the straight poo is.

Not exactly, the straw doesn't necessarily give it more volume it loosens it up so that the mycelium has pathways with which to colonize the substrate. The volume is, I would guess, probably pretty close to straight poo, having never used it I cannot say.

As for whether or not it is more nutritious I cannot say either, RodgerRabbit has had some gorgeous luck with straw logs, and alot of others swear by straw, it would take a more experienced hand to answer that question, though I may look through the site to find it for myself and if it is not answered by then post one for ya hehe.

i had success with the 50/50 on my last grow. this time i'm using just the hpoo and colonization time was comparable. although i haven't flushed with the hpoo yet so i'm not sure about the fruits.
