Brand name vs Off brand

In my experiences with off brand items, (from food to shampoo to clothing) I've found out that for the most part (usually not including electronics) they're just as good as brand name items.
I for one LOVE the Great Value mac & cheese shells more than I like the Velveeta shells and cheese. I also love the off brand seasoned fries they sell at Wal-Mart - they're better than Checkers or Back Yard Burger seasoned fries anyday. When it comes to items like shampoo, Equate Dandruff shampoo works just as well as Head and Shoulders.
I really don't see the difference in most off brand products because, generally speaking, they have the same active ingredients with different inactive ingredients.
I know not in all cases is the off brand better, but I'm thinking about buying some whitening strips for my teeth. Apparently smoking reefer gives you yellow teeth and I used to have very white teeth . I'm wondering if you folks think the off brand whitening strips would work just as well as the Crest White strips. They are way cheaper (only 20 bucks) than Crest and claim to do the same thing. Any experiences or thoughts?

when you buy brand names, your buying just that... the name. So long as the active ingredients are the same, you got nothin to loose going off-brand. Generics save $$$ and to me, thats all that matters.

Toilet paper, garbage bags, booze, and hookers are the only common items to avoid cheap brands with.

I won't use any electronics that aren't name brand.

We have those draw string generic trash bags and they've always done fine. They've never ripped. However, we have gotten some off brand garbage bags that seem like they're made of the thinnest plastic they could find. Those ripped all the time.
