just wondering if there was anyway to clean pre-pasturized poo of contams without having to pressure cook it...? I bought a 5 pound bag from the tennstud people and it seems to contam when spawned with jars of wbs/verm/and a little brf. I dont think it'd be wise to repasturize it either but i could be wrong. so any tips/advice would be most awesome. thanx -shroomR

I think Re-pasteurizing would be the best thing to do.
What contams are you getting? Mean green?

I heard somewhere that re-pasteurizng is a BAD thing to do because it starts the process all over again (At least with organic Compost)

mean green and some other mycelium-lookin growth, cept it has a sour, funky smell to it and isnt fluffy or rhizo; its much more clear as opposed to a nice white myc. color. i've heard of people doing spawn bags already prepared with poo and grains and whatnot... so why do people say not to PC poo if it still retains its benificial nutrients. thanx for your suggestions though. i may just have to try the repastur. though

When my thinking is this.
I believe that molds are killed off at relatively low temperatures. If they are what's causing the problem then re-pasteurizing might be just the ticket. I also feel that beneficial bacteria that are able to survive the high temps of the first pasteurization will also survive the second pasteurization.
Of course this is all a theory. Pressure cooking it inside of mycobags will work to clean it for sure. But then you gotta be in aseptic conditions when spawning. If you have a flowhood it'd be an easy job.

BASICALLY, The reason you pasteurize poo is so that you leave some beneficial bacteria alive they are kinda place holders until the mycelium can get a good foot hold of the substrate. They provide some defense against competitors.
If you PC the substrate the "bodys" of the microbes will still be in the substrate for the mycelium to digest so it wont lack nutritionally but they will be DEAD so they wont provide any defense against contams. And if you buy that, Read this for more info http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post5325700

cool man, thanx for your help and quick response. I think i'm gonna try both ways. I've got some cambodian and malabar LC and 5 jars of each going right now. Really thought they'd be a little quicker with the LC but there comin all the same. going on day 4 now and they're only 15% done on average. oh well. thanx again, shroomr
