Babies growing in a potted house plant!
    #5364921 -

In the Fall 2005 I had one of my houseplants outside for a few months. Some LBM's started to grow from the soil. Of course I figured they were just something not of interest but I showed someone who had a little bit of experience with identifying the Psilocybe species and he was surprised and said he'd never actually seen one but that they looked just like stuntzii's. We took one to a local mushroom festival to have it looked at. Two different mycologists looked at it, couldn't give a straight answer (it had melted a bit by the time we got there) but said that if the spore print turned out purple that it could only really be one thing. I did make a print of one and it was a brownish/purple.
My potted plant has been back inside since winter and just the other day, upon watering, I noticed several babies growing from the soil again. I was hoping they'd come back so I could get another look and maybe some more opinions about what they are. Here's a few photo's of some of the babies.

Even with a spore print color we won't be able to identify those without a microscope. Psilocybe is a pretty reasonable guess for genus.

Happy mushrooming!
