Buying a Used Ipod online, good idea?

If I just pick one up from Ebay, or half.com, think it will be good, don't want to get burned.

quite possibly not. most older ipods (the early minis were really bad), hell all ipods, have a limited number of times they can recharge. the trade off for having a battery strong enough to run a harddisk for 10 hours.

i had an early white ipod, after 8 months if only held a charge for 5 mins. there was a class action lawsuit about it (got 25 bux, yeh!). the last generation of minis prior to being discontinued for the nano used a new battery that should live for 18months+, but again...

it will prolly work fine, but the battery will quickly die. and you cannot have it repaired. they injection molded the battery to the pc board. they will replace it if it is under warrenty and you can show receipt, but that is only for a year...

if you can be sure it wasn't used all that much, it might be worth it. which one and how much?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with my IPOD but I bought it and never use it. It's a 60GB ipod photo if you want to buy it off me let me know. They actually sell 3 year contracts for ipods. My Girlfriend has a mini that works great.

right, but you are not the one looking to buy one... a duh... i get it now, your offering it to the other guy... i should sleep soon...

if the mini was the original 4gig, they get bad fast, the newer 4 and 6 gigs (of which i bought the g/f the pink one, they like that kinda thing) are fine. i'm talking about first gen white ipods, which was 5 gig (and i bought for 500 buck long ago, later to meet a sledge hammer), and the second (15, 20, 30 gb) and some third generations (20 and 30gb). photo is fourth, video fifth, i think.

at the time there was a year warrenty, and a class action lawsuit was filed. they settled round 18 months ago i think... then were forced to change warrenty.

i actaully bought the extended appleplan warrenty with a powerbook and the ipod. they refused to cover the ipod and when the power inverter on the laptop went out they refused that too... even though i paid extra for the 'special' warrenty and it was only 4 months old...

like every company good and bad times.

uh, pm me with a price on that ipod as well, other guy gets first dibs, but i dismantled my lastest mp3 player...

I bought it off Ebay, works good, 30GB picture ipod for 220. Saved 80 bucks off buying it new. Out of curiosity how much are you trying to sell your 60 gig for?

I bought a 20 gig 4g Ipod off ebay for 260 including shipping a year ago. Works fine, I'll prolly get a new battery soon though.
