An ipod question
    #2267096 - 01/24/04 12:52 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

I have a quick question that I can't seem to find the answer to.

A buddy of mine told me that the ipod from apple can be used on regular PCs not just on apples.

Is this true? I would love to get one but I think that they only are for apple computers.

If they are not compatable with regular computers than can anyone suggest the "best bang for your buck" mp3 player that is.

Thanks for all replies and info.

yeah

once in a while you *may* have to replace your battery. sometimes your battery happens to last for years, sometimes itll get fucked up within a year

60 dollars for a new battery ( at least before apple started offering them.. dunno how much they charge )
( and it never really *dies*, it just gets a much shorter lifetime- i havent heard of one less than 4 hours yet .. easily fixed with a battery change)

Pretty much every 18 months on average for the current iPods. This is a limitation of lithium ion technology. Your laptop, cellphone, etc all have the same problem, but most of them have user replacable batteries. Imho, apple screwed up here.

$99 to send the iPod in and have them replace the battery. The price includes the cost of the new battery as well.

(With apple, I know what I am talking about...I have certifications for servicing apple portables, apple desktops and mac OS, and have been a certified apple professional for the last two years.)

I am starting to think that I should look into other mp3 players. I'm not to excited about having to deal with sending an ipod in just to have the battery changed.

Can anyone suggest a more owner friendly mp3 player?

Thanks

Unfortunately, the iPod is the best of all that I have played with.

I am starting to think that I will just hold out and wait for a "new and improved" model.

Thanks for all the responses everyone.

The new iPods work on both systems without any additives.

I recently swapped a 20gb Creative NOMAD for a 40gb iPod.

The iPod is absolutely outstanding.
