jar #6 (of 8) was displaying bizarre black dot patterns around stray pieces of vermiculite stuck to the inside of the bottom of the jar (it was upside-down w/ the cake resting on the dry verm layer, not touching the dots) and so excluded itself from the casing that i am making very soon... so late last night, blazing bc bud and thus procrastinating the mixing and sterilizing of the casing until today, i birthed the jar.. and proceeded to hack the sh!t out of it, for a few of the tiny dots had affixed themselves to a piece of primordeal growth, in addtion to a very small green splotch (not more than 1 cm in diameter) with about 5 of the same insidious black dots upon the cake-dry verm termination line.. and my blade-strokes accelerated from small dextrous swipes to gratutious violence as i removed all the dry verm, carved away about 4-5 cm from any percieved contam.. then leaving the now-quasi-moto cake in a jar above perlite, as a freak show for all to enjoy... i put a solution of 20:1 30% h2o2:h2o in the perlite and misted the brutalized cake with the same... my question to experienced growers is this: if no evidence of contam returns, and the cake recovers and fruits... would eating the mush make me sick? and.. what are the chances of the slightly-bluified cake making a come-back? thank you for your expertise... ...iago

responding to your own post is a cheap way to keep it on the first page, and theoretically get an answer maybe someday

if it grows mushrooms and there is no more sign of contam at all u SHOULD be safe....i would be extra cautious....there is no way to know if it will survive other than to wait and see.

eating contaminated fruits is never a good idea, as the fruitbodies may absorb toxins released by said bacteria or other contaminant. In my opinion a little mold is much safer than a little bacteria, but its still not really safe. As for the blueified cake making a comeback, it should. The blueifying is just bruising or dehydration.

consider that part of the mycelia diet is something that is toxic to you. decide for yourself if you want to eat it.
