Cough medicine

I've got a wicked cough, and want to take a cough suppressant or something to at least ease it up a bit. But I don't want to take anything with DXM because even just a small amount has noticable psychoactive effects with me now. Anyone know of any nice soothing herbs?

What's wrong with psychoactive effects? And why do you get that now?

I prefer to work with a clear head. I'm sure I got it before too, but after using DXM frequently for a few months a couple years back, I'm more attuned to the effects.

there are tons of cough medicines that do not have DXM in it.. a lot of manufactors have moved away from the use of DXM in their cough syrups because of the growing use of DXM by teenagers

The best thing to do is to beat the cold you got as quick as possible.
Forget all those 'methods' out there, only the true basics really work.
Daily: 1. Vitamin C (Time realease 2000mg Caps are great) 2. Zinc (~50mg) 3. Tons of liquid.
Pushing the vit C to 2g+ per day will put your system into super defensive mode, and speed up the recovery process by a lot, especialy combined with the zinc. Liquids flush.
You probably wont find 2000mg Vitamin C caps anywhere in pharmacies, since thats 3333% of the daily recommended dose (even says that on the bottle).... but it should be easy enough to find at a GNC (muscle store). Athletes use it to speed up muscle recovery after a workout. Time release caps are important because your body just tosses out excess if you take too much at a time.

What up man. yea i keep my life really busy so i only come on here sporadically (sp?)
But yea, i just end up drinking a lot of water and waiting it out...sometimes cough drops. Its annoying, but really i dont think cough medicine ever helped me get better faster anyway, it just suppressed the cough. I will take dxm as a last resort every once in a while though.
But yea i really need to find another alternative lol

Dxm was brought in to replace codine as a cough surpressant, if DXM dont work try codine. Dextrophan Rocks, i like being dissociated. In a non smack way.

You must be able to get paracetamol and codine tabs from your pharmacy. There pain killers but they work on coughs too.
Sorry, i dont know where you live. lol

What! Man I went to York just a few months ago and looked for codeine in the pharmacies there but I couldn't find ANY. Man that's a bummer.

When was the last time codeine was sold OTC in the USA?

I think within the past few decades. Either that or around Anslinger's time, but I'm pretty sure it was more recent than that.

Damn i have the same problem with DXM. I've gained a pretty wicked reverse tolerance to it from when i used to trip all the time. Last time i was sick i took some medicine to get rid of some congestion. I didn't realize the stuff had DXM in it until i swallowed it. Just one pill (15mg) gave me a 2nd plateau experience complete with OOBE. Shitty! Sucks being hyper-sensitive to drugs.
