Phil is the man. Alot of folks don't realize that he was almost, if not as much a backbone member of the Dead as Jerry was. In the early day(and throughout the years) the intense jams and excellent playing of Jerry was becuase Phil was opening door after door. For christ sakes I have heard Phil play shit that defies physics. The way he play's bass is fucking nuts. He completely reinvented the way the instrument was played and the role of bass in music. His musical skills are absolutaly superb.

he has influenced not only the way i play music. but the way i think about it

Phil at his core is nothing more then melody and rhythm. :gd_icon:

My relationship with Phil is one of love/hate, kind of. He has done some shit to make me mad as hell, but his influence in my life is undeniable. I will see him at Bonnaroo, this year. I can't wait! I just hope that Chris Robinson isn't with him, again. That was blasphemous!

:lol:Chris is just visually annoying to me.:shrug:He reminds me of Stephen Tyler for some reason that I cannot explain. I liked Joan's majic, though, which was a total shocker to me, when I first heard that she was doing stuff with the Dead.

Phil is definitely the man in my opinion. I highly recommend his autobiography "Searching for the Sound: My Life with the Grateful Dead"

One of the best books I've ever read.
