So the WORD, is that they're fixing it up? Who's to say thats totally wrong?

I've seen overgrow down for this long ever. You would think, that if they were going to redo it, they would have already made the new look on another computer, and just switched it over night or something.

Has anyone actually been in touch with "RC" about this? It seems strange that the site would be down for so long. It also seems rather off that this wasn't done mostly with the site running. I don't mean offense but so far no one has claimed to actually have been in communication with the people/person who runs overgrow and thus no one has come forward with any facts concerning the situation. I keep hearing claims that the site is being updated. I have never known for an update to cause a site to be down for what is now a little over four days. Any thoughts?

i hope for OG it comes back with some much needed changes... or its doom for them!

i haven't used OG for years now (though i never was much of a poster... but at least i got to see it in its prime befor the trolls took over) but i always thought i'd come back once i start growing... i'm not that sure anymore!

this is the most elequent response I have seen yet.

Firstly, I never did sell cannabis.com - $1 Million was a tad too high ... but hey it's fun to dream LOL!

As you've already mentioned, most of the bonafide offers were between $100K to $300K with several in the $250K to $300K range, and one somewhat above that, but that offer didn't go anywhere ... it's still for sale, but I recently knocked the minimum I'd consider way down to $250K with a BIN price of $525K.

I've taken cannabis.com way beyond what many thought possible ... $90K in ad revenue in 2005. About 40% of that income came from herbal alternative products ... an uncomforably high ratio. Marijuana.com relies on such advertisers even more than cannabis.com does. Even Overgrow has had (still does?) herbal ads in their archives / gallery sections.

Point is that there are relatively few advertisers out there seeking out cannabis sites ... it's no wonder OG and others have such a tough time covering operating costs; if OG was truly making a bundle, they'd be up already ... heck, I have cann.com mirrored in two data centers to minimize downtime; marijuana.com has some redundency as well ... rambling on, but money really is the key ... some bitch about the money part, but it's what enable such large sites to be able to afford the bandwidth, etc.

Overgrow will likely be back soon, but they're in a real pickle ... server / bandwidth, and consequently, to some extent, the cost tends to grow in a somewhat logarithmic fashion to traffic requiring more and more ads, etc; lack of professionalism doesn't help matters ... Overgrow's domain registrar DomainPeople offers forwarding with each domain registration, and OG is already using their nameservers, so all they'd have to do login, enter in a forwarding url, and turn forwarding on.

In regards to the government ... learned long ago they're very cheap ... so don't ever expect them to buy any cannabis related site. Heck, I used to own drugabuse.COM and the government didn't buy it even though they own and operate drugabuse.GOV and knew they were leaking traffic to drugabuse.COM ... ended up selling it to an investor who has redirected to pay per click (PPC) advertising page.

Databases of usernames, IP addresses, etc are of limited value to law enforcement, such as the DEA ... they instead tend to rely on informants (lots of them out there on the sites; anyone can be one ) and undercover agents (few and far between; they leave it to the informants to do the heavylifting) ... point is that investigations rely on personal interaction, not IP addresses, etc ... a username / IP address, etc proves little to nothing - personal interaction (email exchanges, meeting in person, exchanging stuff) is how they gather evidence (heck, Marc knows all about how they operate first hand ... they're sneaky devils! ) ... in a nutshell, OGs database is likely of limited value for the reasons above; law enforcement authorities likely already know of some of the larger grows on OG ... but they can only go after so many people; tending to aim low for the easy catch.

To digress a bit, I live in the Reading, PA area and have spoken with various law enforcement folks over the years, and some have told me straight out that they know exactly where and who is involved in various drug related activities in the area and yet lack the resources to do anything; there are way more people growing, dealing, using, etc than they can ever stop - many, though admittedly still a very small percentage, in law enforcement are speaking out for drug policy reform ... ie. via LEAP - http://www.leap.cc/

Rambling on as I often do ... well, anyways hope OG is back soon (if I see one more where is OG post, I'm going to go bananas - or maybe I am now LOL!) ... and wish Marc and his staff / family the best in these challenging days.
