the key to owning a boat is knowing when It's time to sell it...

never make an investment you can't afford to loose, straight economics 101 there. If you pay $10,000 for a boat, but It costs $500 a month to mantian then you only have so long until your marginal benifit won't cover the marginal and sunken costs once you resell it.

Boats are only money pits when you let them be.
