That movie was awful. Not the scariest movie ever. Definitely one of the shittiest movies ever. If that scared you, definitely don't watch real horror films.

Japanese horror is an acquired taste, and nothing like American horror. less splatter, more psychological, less plot-based happy endings: the 'goodies' usually find a way to beat the 'baddies' in American horror films; in Japanese ones there's no way to beat something unworldly so the goodies just get mashed up one by one.

I liked the ring, which was made by the same people IIRC, but I thought the grudge was just done pretty poorly. I don't mean to stomp on your opinion, I just felt that buffy the vampire slayer was a pretty poor choice as a lead and did a diservice to what could have been a halfway decent movie. From what I understand, a very good Japanese horror film is a movie called Audition. Supposed to be one of the most frightening movies of all time.

I guess it's good that you liked it, I didn't. Little boys meowing and girls with pretty bad cases of jaw clench just don't scare me.

Actually, Dan my man... they were made by different people. The similarity comes from the fact that they're both based on the same general series of original source material... which I believe was a comic book series in Japan?

I'm not sure, a little foggy on the details.

But I agree... the Ring kicks the Grudge's ass ANY DAY. Like every damn scene is more convincing... more believable. The grudge is like "oh no! smurfs are gonna get me!" The ring is like "Oh my god, I'm afraid of my own unknown soul!"

I am pretty high, and I apologize in advance for how ridiculous this post might be.
