boiling my glass pipe in boiling water??

so i was sitting there and noticed my glass pipe is looking a little gross lately, so i thought "what if i throw it in a boiling pot of water to get all that crap out?"

anyone know if that would work?

Usually people just rinse the pipe in 99% rubbing alcohol.

Worked for me before... it's a pain in the ass though. Make sure it's completely dry before loading a bowl.

I didn't really read up or ask anyone I just winged it, with water. I'd go with Heavytoilet and rinse it real good with alcohol.

use salt with the alcohol, it'll help. then flush with warm water, usually does the trick for me.

all i know is that if you heat glass up to fast it can shatter. so increase the heat rather slow.
although i think rubbing alcohol would just be easier...

yes , unless you have a really THICK bowl dont just throw it in boiling water. what i gererally do is rub it down with soap and try and remove as much gunk as i can, try and clear it with the alcohol, set the alcohol on fire ( while the pipe is on the table ) it will burn off quickly then the gunk will be extremely easy to remove. As a general afterclear just wash it under tap water ( i usually try and get it as hot as i can ) * try using a sax or clarinet neck cleaner ..they have strong brushes intended to get into small places.

yeah i wouldnt boil it in "boiling water" i mean it will work but its going to damage your pipe, making like small spider web cracks.. depending on the thickness.. pretty much no matter what its going to weaken the structure of ur piece thou

i'm weary about running anything other than hot water through my bowl, my friend used one of those 420 cleaners and it kinda gives the pot a nasty taste now. I soaked minein hot water with the stove off and then ran hot water through it.

If you have a standard pyrex bowl, putting it in water and boiling it will work. You'll leave behind a nasty ring around the pot, though- use an old pot or pan. If it develops cracks it's a shitty pipe and should be put out of its misery. Good pyrex glass can take a lot of temperture change... that's what most of your science lab-ware and kitchen cooking stuff are made of.

I prefer soaking in rubbing alcohol and then rinsing well and going over with pipecleaners.

Scrape, smoke, soak.

Salt and alcohol do the trick.

Any well made pipe can handle the boiling water just fine. I had a pretty delicate Sherlock that I couldn't even scrape and it held up perfect.

Or you could listen to everyone else and go alcohol and salt, works like a charm.

If your still wanting to boil it.....put some baking soda in the water.





99% alcolol\salt wash, with a warm water rinse........works better IME
