popcorn are great but they're filled with nasties...i usually soak mine in 10% bleach solution for 2-3 hours then rinse and re-soak it again without the bleach for another 45 hours. simmer till soft then pc for 90 mins..it works for me. maybe my tek is overdone but i hate it when i get a jar 1/2+ colonized then it shows up so much wasted time. maybe other members here have a solutions? peace siam

try cleaning out your jars better. if you keep trying to grow mushrooms in a rinsed out jar you aren't going to grow anything different than black mold. as you noticed it is very fast. lysol or oust the air first then inoculate. it will keep the spores at bay while innoculating. again make sure your jars are clean as hell. try a 10% bleach and water solution to clean them out. try a new print or syringe maybe that one is contaminated if EVERY jar is contaminated.

i appreciate the replies guys, i usually rinse my jars out with hot water & dishwashing detergent, and throw the jars in the pc @ 15psi for about 30min...
maybe its the popcorn soaking method that Thai_connection suggested. Can i use clorox bleach when soaking?
thankx

i have never heard of someone using bleach while soaking and i wouldn't do it just because if you didn't get all the bleach out you would be doomed because myc wouldn't be able to live imo
more than likely it is your injection method (imo that is almost 99% of probs since it invites contams in ) i never had much luck with tyvek but when i just started using a polyfill lid much much better ime

would a good suggestion on cleaning the jars be soaking them in a mixture of water/hydrogen peroxide, then pressure cooking them for another 30min @ psi?

I agrea with this try whipeing down the tops of the jars with rubing alcohol, as well as your needle, and flaming the needle before injecting each jar. Also maybe look at how and were you store your syringes, last time I cleaned my fridge I had some nasty black mold hanging out near the crisper.

You either have a dirty print, syringes, LC, or you are not PC'ing long enough.
And/or your inoculation procedure is funky. (always keep the unsheathed needle wrapped in an ALC soaked gauze pad, paper towel, or whatever. Do not expose needle to open air. It takes some getting used to & practice, but is VERY effective)
I am not a p/corn fan. I prefer WBS (Bird Basic's Brand from PetCo 40 lb bag @ $8).

maybe you may want to check out this> http://forums.mycotopia.net/showthread.php?t=5803
AND a quote from roger> The Ugly: Popcorn harbors more bacterial endospores than other common grains used in mushroom culture such as rye berries. Many of us now give a 24 to 48 hour soak in coffee prior to sterilization, which helps to germinate those endospores so they can be killed in the autoclave or pressure cooker. This soak period should be considered mandatory with popcorn to ensure success, but I consider it optional with other grains. Prior to using the long soak times, my failure rate with popcorn due to bacillus was unacceptable.
however it could be what the others are saying too, but i have always use bleach in my soak and am doing good. i do also run a farm of over 5000 sawdust bags so i am very caution of contam peace siam
