I've got tickets to see Willie Nelson and his local band -- The Planetary Bandits -- here tonite. They're playing with two other local groups in a small bar in a little town on north shore. The place holds less than 200 people so it'll be an intimate little show. I've never seen Willie before, so I am looking forward to this gig. Hope to have some decent pics to post later on.
Cheers and Merry Christmas, Pub!

I've always been a fan of Willie. I was just listening to the song "On The Road Again" today and realized how much I really like it.
And if the movie "Honeysuckle Rose" is ever playing on TV I always watch it. Great flick!

Just got back from the gig. It was a great little gig. We got in nice and early cuz we had advance tics and scored a little table not too far from teh stage. The first opener-- The Easy-- was a sweet little island/reggae/rock band. I work with the ukulele player/ singer. They had a very crisp and fresh sound. Played mostly original songs tune, and really had their own unique style.
The second act-- Da Maui Boyz w/ Marty Dread-- was a pretty good blues band with a rasta-ish lead dude. They played some great blues, but there were quite a few riffs and changes that were definitely lifted from classic bluesmen. Even if I couldn't name the original song/artist, I'd heard a lot of it before, ya know?
Last was The Planetary Bandits w/ Willy Nelson. They played lots of Willy greats, real upbeat and electric rockabilly. At this time the place became absolutely PACKED. There were lots of folks who showed up then just see Willy play. Standing room only for about an hour. Wille said he was "gonna play one more song..." 4 or 5 times then played On The Road Again and called it a night.
The only pic that came close to turning out and he has a towel right in his face! There were NO white spotlights on the band at all. A few track lights with some different colors and some Christmas lights strung around the bar. Maui style! I had the ISO set to 1600 the aperture WIDE open and tried as slow a shutter speed as I could manage....Oh wel....
After Willy left the stage the band played a couple more real awesome jammy songs. Not that most people noticed cuz they were all leaving. At least half the bar emptied once Willy was gone. They were going to play until close and we felt like we enjoyred ourselves, so we left during the setbreak. So that was it. Oh, and during Willy's last few songs, there were people out back, behind the bar smoking the reefer, cuz it wafted right in the backdoor. It was a non-smoking place inside, so there was definitely no mistaking that odor :-)
Cheers, Pub! Mele Kalikimaka!
