Anybody remember in Eddie Murphy Raw where he talks about receiving a phone call from Cosby?  Cosby wanted to know why Eddie had to curse so much and wanted him to clean up his act.  Haha now look at Eddie Murphy, his humor is watered down and he  sucks.  I guess they got to him too:lol:

I highly doubt anything on that page is true but I would be quite sure Cosby has some clout in the entertainment business.

The story does seem a little far fetched, but seeing as theres a white secret society of the rich and powerful that meet and conspire at Bohemian Grove each summer, I don't see why the rich and powerful of the black community wouldn't meet and conspire against someone who they see as going against their interests. Not to mention Farrakhan is generally considered one of the organizers of Malcolm X's assassination.
I'm not saying that the theory is true, but in America the extremely wealthy can pretty much do anyting they want as long as they don't step on the toes of people wealthier than they are, or more powerful politically than they are. So considering how much money the "Black Crusaders", or whatever the guy calls them, have and the fact that they have a good deal of political clout I see it as being completely plausible.

Exactly, discounting references to sharpton wielding a gun taking pictures of your children, the theory really isn't absurd at all.

I must say though that a movie based on this theory could be mint(y)

This sounds a little bit J Edgar Hoover to me.

Example for comparison:

abandon his supposed obediance to white liberal doctrine
of non-violence...and embrace black nationalism...

"The story does seem a little far fetched, but seeing as theres a white secret society of the rich and powerful that meet and conspire at Bohemian Grove each summer"

Kinda. A big party with rich and powerful people happens every year... but considering that Colin Powell attends it, it's definitely not "white". Probably various other black people there.

From all reliable accounts, it's really just a big ol' weekend getaway for the rich and powerful. Is business discussed now and then? Probably. Maybe some big important ideas even took shape there.

Richard Nixon went a few times, and once said "The Bohemian Grove -- which I attend, from time to time -- it is the most faggy goddamned thing you could ever imagine, with that San Francisco crowd. I can't shake hands with anybody from San Francisco."

It's not really a secret, either. A lot of people have tall tales about it, because whenever you put a bunch of rich and powerful people in a place where others aren't allowed, the paranoid and overimaginative start making up stupid stories about all the crazy things they imagine must be happening. These stories might be really interesting, but they aren't necessarily connected to reality.

So when something kinda mysterious happens to a public figure... like whatevers going on with Dave Chapelle, and people start making up paranoid imaginative stories, people start to believe them, for lack of anything more accurate. To claim that it's "plausible" that Oprah inserted secret messages into her show that were only broadcast to Dave's house... well, I guess in theory that could maybe be arranged, but come on. It's the kind of thing that happens in cheesy movies all the time, but reality? I think not.

The members of the Bohemian Club are about 99.5% white, so basically it is just the rich and powerful whites of society. And I realize that its not a secret society or anything but its a very secretive society.

When you say "reliable accounts", what would you consider those to be? Accounts from people that have actually been involved in one of the gatherings? If so, then of course they're just going to say that its just some good time away from the hectic life of a CEO/politician/celebrity/etc., but theres no way I would consider that reliable. If there is covert stuff going on there, of course they're not going to go blabbing about it publicly. For example, the Manhattan Project, the American project to create the atomic bomb, was thought up there in 1942.

I just can't imagine pretty much the 2000 most rich and powerful people from the western world meeting up for 2 weeks just to relax. There's obviously going to be scheming and coniving going on especially considering that these people can only benefit by conspiring with each other to become more rich and powerful. From the time the club started in the late 1800's the dichotomy between rich and poor around the world has only become greater, and I see that as no coincidence.

And I never said that all of the things in the theory were plausible. I do think some of the things are down right ridiculous, but the story as a whole is very plausible. Maybe I'm just a sucker for conspiracy theory but alot of the time these conspiracy theories are just as believable and plausible as the "official" story. The "official" story, in most cases, is always either straight from the mouth of a PR representative or is formulated by a PR representative. And if you didn't already know, PR people are pretty much paid to lie.

Chappelle could very possibly just be crazy, parnoid, addicted to crack, or falling into delerium, but, to me at least, it seems just as plausible that there are powerful figures in the black community that see him as a threat to the "progress" they've made as a race, so they want to silence him.

So I'll reiterate that I don't think the story is necessarily true, but it wouldn't surprise me if many of the elements of it were true. I mean, except for hearing about the few shows he made for season 3 coming out, when was the last time you heard shit about Dave Chappelle from anyone. He disappeared in the middle of production of a show he was being payed $50 million for, all while acting extremely strangely. Celebrities are often eccentric, but the way the cancelation of his show played out, Chappelle is either crazy or someone was putting pressure on him to stop the show. Well, at least in my eyes.

Because Chappelle's show was primarily popular with middle class whites, and his comedy satires the black culture which is BET's prime demographic.

When you say "reliable accounts", what would you consider those to be?

Ones based on actual information, as opposed to a bunch of made up theories based on assumptions.

Like this one, from one of the many people who work there as a server:
http://www.sonic.net/~kerry/bohemian/workone.html
or look at some pictures of people doing regular fun things:
http://www.sonic.net/~kerry/bohemian/grovelife.html

Or you could just stop and think for a second. If the purpose is to secretly run the world, why are people like Art Linkletter in there? Are the world's governments involved in a secret conspiracy to collect the dardest things kids say?

I just can't imagine pretty much the 2000 most rich and powerful people from the western world meeting up for 2 weeks just to relax.

Why not? First off, I'm not sure that they're really the "2000 most rich and powerful people in the western world", more accurately, they're "2000 rich people, including some of the most powerful in the western world". Secondly, they're all really busy people who lead hectic, stressful lives... why would they not want some time to relax among their peers? Wouldn't you want a couple weeks every year to get together with a bunch of your friends and college buddies?

It's not like they need some kind of secret summer camp to be able to discuss business.

From the time the club started in the late 1800's the dichotomy between rich and poor around the world has only become greater, and I see that as no coincidence.

This is the goofiest sentence ever written in the entire history of the english language, and it's obviously no coincidence that goofy sentences have only been getting goofier since the start of this club in the 1800's.

Was the gap between the rich and the poor stable right up until the time the club was formed, and then it suddenly took off?

Was the gap between the rich and the poor in say, London in 1800 really that much smaller than it is now?

What makes more sense:

A) The gap between the rich and the poor gradually increases as population grows exponentially.

B) The gap between the rich and the poor gradually increases when a fairly small handful of rich people start getting together with old friends and plenty of drinking for 2 weeks each year.

It's a lot more exciting to try to explain everything that's happening in the world through conspiracy theories than by analyzing various economic and social trends. But conspiracy theories and fairy tales are based on pretty much equal amounts of fact and investigation.

So actually investigating things and trying to find answers, instead of collecting a minimal amount of information, and then just making up the most exciting story you can think of to go along with it won't get you anywhere. It's lazy, and it's childish.

Auto-Summary
The post discusses the Bohemian Grove, a secretive summer event attended by influential people, including some of the wealthiest in the Western world. It questions the need for such gatherings when business discussions can be conducted via other means. The author argues that the wealth gap between the rich and poor is more likely due to a small group of powerful individuals conspiring to maintain their wealth, rather than population growth alone. They provide historical context, noting that despite fewer regulations and taxes in the late 1800s, the wealthy still had less control over the nation's wealth. The post suggests that gatherings like Bohemian Grove may contribute to the concentration of wealth among a select few, influencing business and politics in North America and the Western world. The author concludes by criticizing those who make bold claims without thorough investigation, deeming it lazy and childish.

Like this one, from one of the many people who work there as a server:
http://www.sonic.net/~kerry/bohemian/workone.html
or look at some pictures of people doing regular fun things:
http://www.sonic.net/~kerry/bohemian/grovelife.html

This "account" says nothing of substance.  Its from a server that was  "limited to the parking lot and the dining circle, nowhere in between".  So she got to see people eating; it doesn't seem to be a very revealing account.  And the pictures show people doing regular camping stuff which I never said they didn't do.  If all they were there for was fun, relaxation, and time to catch up with buddies why would there be lectures and discussions on pervasive issues?

more accurately, they're "2000 rich people, including some of the most powerful in the western world"

You hardly have to be rich to get into the club considering the initiation fee is only $2,500 and the yearly dues are only $600. So I think I more accurately stated it by saying the "2000 most rich and powerful people in the western world".  Its not the just money that gets them in, its the prestige and power that they hold.

It's not like they need some kind of secret summer camp to be able to discuss business.

Of course they don't, but their time at Bohemian Grove will be one of the few times each year when it is possible to network and speak business between large groups of other attendees, and the only time when all of the attendees with be in the same place all at once.  I imagine it would be much easier than arranging conference calls between hundreds of people when they all have such busy schedules and are all in different time zones.

What makes more sense:

A) The gap between the rich and the poor gradually increases as population grows exponentially.

B) The gap between the rich and the poor gradually increases when a fairly small handful of rich people start getting together with old friends and plenty of drinking for 2 weeks each year.

Actually B makes more sense, that is, when you take the logical fallacy out of the equation.
Why would the gap between rich and poor grow as the poputaion grows?  If anything, in a capitalist society population growth should lead to equal growth in the population of the extremely wealthy, and thus the distribution of wealth should stay roughly the same(or seeing as the percentage of people with a college education has risen drastically since the 1800's the gap should actually be reduced).  This hasn't been the case, and I would argue that this fact  is due to the rich conspiring to keep themselves rich(and powerful), generally at the expense of the lower classes.  Bohemian Grove, and similar gathering places around the world, would be a perfect place to do this.

Since the late 1800's the rich have become richer and the poor(actually better represented as the rest of the population) have become poorer, at least in America.  I wish I could find some exact statistics for the comparison but at the moment all I can find are vague references about the change in the distribution of wealth.  However, if you know anything at all about the history of wealth and global economy you'll realize that I'm not just pulling this out of nowhere.

The thing that is so surprising is that the tycoons of the late 1800's had to deal with fewer taxes, lax business regulations, and essentially nonexistent labor laws; yet even considering these "benefits", the extremely rich still had less control over the wealth of the nation than they do now.  Basically, as the population has risen(since 1880 the American population has risen by 6 times), the population of those controlling America's wealth has grown at a significantly lesser rate.

I'm not trying to attribute all of this specifically to the Bohemian Club, but I do think that gatherings like that which occurs at Bohemian Grove and which occur around the world(Helmut Schmidt wrote that they have similar clubs in Germany and the Bohemian Club was initially based off of British gentlemen's clubs),  have probably played a large part in the growth of wealth which is possessed by a fairly small proportion of the population.  And even though only "a fairly small handful of people" go to the grove, this handful of people seem to represent a significant proportion of the corporations and organizations which control business and politics in North America and much of the Western world.

So actually investigating things and trying to find answers, instead of collecting a minimal amount of information, and then just making up the most exciting story you can think of to go along with it won't get you anywhere. It's lazy, and it's childish.

So I don't actually investigate things, and have a minimal amount of information? Oh and I'm childish and lazy?  If you ask me using large amounts of logical fallacy during what should be an intelligent argument seems a tad childish to me, but I generally try to refrain from name calling.

Actually B makes more sense, that is, when you take the logical fallacy out of the equation.

What logical fallacy? Do you even know what a logical fallacy is?

Population grows exponentially. If the rich and the poor reproduced at the same rate, which they probably don't, and you started out with 10 rich people, and 100 poor people, and they each doubled in population 3 times over X amount of time, you're going to end up with 30 rich people, and 300 poor people. What was once a gap of 90 has now become a gap of 270. Once you factor in the increased rate of reproduction for the lower classes and adjust for a bit of mingling between the rich and the poor, you're still going to see an increasing gap.

It's pretty basic math. What exactly is the logical fallacy here?

If anything, in a capitalist society population growth should lead to equal growth in the population of the extremely wealthy

What? Why the hell would that be? First off, that would mean that poor people and rich people would have to be reproducing at exactly the same rate, and that they started off roughly equal to begin with, which obviously isn't so.

Was there ever an equal amount of rich and poor people? I certainly don't think so. Show me some information indicating that this was once true, and what you're saying will make a hell of a lot more sense.

or seeing as the percentage of people with a college education has risen drastically since the 1800's the gap should actually be reduced

If the percentage of people with a college education is rising, then the value of a college education decreases. That's pretty freakin' straightforward. It used to be that a small percentage of the population got a degree and were then able to do quite well. Now freakin' everyone has a degree and most of them are still ending up in shit jobs. This is exactly the same principal as inflation, which is basic economics.

The extremely wealthy get wealthy mostly by shuffling money around, not necessarily through the actually generation of goods.

I just finished reading this: http://sunsite3.berkeley.edu/London/Writings/PeopleOfTheAbyss/

Jack London's account of London's poor in 1902. They were WAAAY worse off than any of the poor of today, eating rotten scraps of fruit off the ground and shit... nowadays you routinely see fat homeless people.

Since the late 1800's the rich have become richer and the poor(actually better represented as the rest of the population) have become poorer, at least in America. I wish I could find some exact statistics for the comparison but at the moment all I can find are vague references about the change in the distribution of wealth. However, if you know anything at all about the history of wealth and global economy you'll realize that I'm not just pulling this out of nowhere.

...and if you know anything at all about biology you'll know that elephants can fly. THAT'S a logical fallacy, simply claiming that "if you know anything about x, then you'll know that y is true" without presenting a single shred of evidence to back it up, and then just moving on as if you've proven something. You don't even have a single piece of information that suggests that the gap suddenly began widening in the 1800s, yet you're accusing ME of using logical fallacies?

And even though only "a fairly small handful of people" go to the grove, this handful of people seem to represent a significant proportion of the corporations and organizations which control business and politics in North America and much of the Western world.

Or you could actually look it up and take note that: "The club's membership includes many artists, particularly musicians, as well as many high-ranking business leaders and government officials." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian_Grove

Sure a few people make speeches on topics that interest them, but the whole thing seems to be more about putting on silly plays and playing music than world politics.

Have you ever been in any large group of people where everyone got along perfectly well? This may come as a suprise to you, but rich people are exactly the same people as poor people, only with more money. The best way to get richer isn't to screw over the poor, it's to screw over rich people. They aren't all working together to get richer, they're human beings. They're all working against one another.

If you ask me using large amounts of logical fallacy during what should be an intelligent argument seems a tad childish to me, but I generally try to refrain from name calling.

Claiming that the gap between two groups of people would remain the same, even though their population is growing exponentially, and they obviously started out with unequal populations from the get go makes no sense whatsoever, and you're accusing me of logical fallacies. Wake up dude, you're making absolutely no sense whatsoever.
