Does anyone like them? I've always banned them from my music library because I have always thought of them as crappy, college new-age music, but I have to admit that soem of their songs are pretty catchy. They also look like they'd be an awesome band to see live.

this band gets that bad stereotype alot. especially by people who have not heard more than a song or havent given a fair listen to. people are too quik to judge.
if you can appreciate musicianship, you will love this band.

I hate their guts. Well.. not really, but I dont like that kind of music at all. I dunno, I cant really get into that style.
Funny thing, I said I hated dave mathews at one party and some girl freaked the fuck out on me and told me to leave her house. It ended alright though, she set me down for a talk and I lied to her saying I didnt mean it.

I love DMB, but it took a while of listening to thier music before I really picked up on how great it is.
Dave in concert is awesome, everyone is stones and Dave will just jam out for a while. Best place to see him was at bonarroo, but I dont think he is playing there this year , actually, i dont think many people I like will be playing there this year.

They're great. I bet if most people that say they hate them would give a listen to a whole album they'd at least like a few songs.

I can think of plenty of bands made up of members who I can admit are musically quite, quite talented. But liking a band is a matter of aesthetic pleasure, of taste, and respect alone can not make me enjoy a band's music.

the Dave Matthews Band gets shit because they're popular...because they're good. They're not underground enough for some people, so they get no street cred. I will defend the Dave Matthews band til I die. They're my favorite band no doubt about it. They're the tightest fucking band in live performance. I've been to my fair share of Phish shows and other various jamband shows, and they're great as well. But nothing hits the spot like the DMB. If one digs deep past the popular songs dave has/had on the radio (they're good too) you will find thoughtful lyrics and worldly jams. Cheers to Dave summer tour 06.

yeah most DMB songs are longer then maybe radio stations will play. therefor it tends to be thier shorter songs that get played. kind of a bummer cuz most of thier best stuff is a bit longer in length.

that's funny since he doesn't have a version.
he does how ever have many different versions, it's changed drastically over his years.
anyone who takes the studio out take as anything misses the point, maybe you don't like the way he plays any time though

I personally love Dave Matthews, especially live. They always put on such an amazing performace. I believe it was at Bonnaroo when he played "Some Devil" with just him and his guitar, it's such an emotional song, and he seemed pretty close to tears.
I almost cried at the part where he says "You said always, and forever, and I believed you baby"
For anyone who think they're a mainstream, college-preppy jam band, well, you're certainly entitled to you're opinion, but I think he puts more soul in to his performanace that most entertainers out there, and they're a group of very talented musicians
I'm uploading "Some Devil". This is the first song I've uploaded to the shroomery...a momentous occasion

I agree that hey are a great band. However, the majority of their following are frat types and sorostitutes. I was loathing their presence at Bonnaroo(the fans). They are generally choads and they have no respect for anyone. That aside, I love the music of DMB.

Ouch. TMV is incredible live. I can not believe Cedric's vocals, they're damn near inhuman. Never pass up a chance to see them live again. Ever.

i'd agree with this, except for the 'loving the music of DMB'. none of their stuff really catches my ear at all. his band is amazing, don't get me wrong, but meh. a band along that vein that i greatly prefer is bela fleck & the flecktones

I've gotta say that dave mathews is one talented mother fucker, musically he knows his shit. I have a lot of respect for him. But I don't particularly enjoy everything i hear by them and i've gotta say that their following does make me skeptical and hesitent to get into them more. I feel like i would like his earlier stuff better i think he kinda did sell out a bit writing more commercial mainstream music.. meh whatever.. i respect him. but i don't LOVE their music

Thats why I can't stand em'. They are watered-down-acessable jam band music for kids that aren't "true" to the essence of jamming.
Give me widespread panic, string cheese incident, big wu, phish...ANY day.
If I have to hear another naive college kid go, "oooooh I LOVE Dave!!!" (as if they know him personally or somthing?!) i'm gonna puke.
Get past the bubble-gum pop jam music and discover where the REAL tallent lies my friends...
PS...
I had to also add that I can't STAND john mayer. Ungh what a creep...3 of my female friends met him backstage at a show and were all really creeped out and disgusted by him. He told them a story about jerking off in highschool in his english class with the "one thumb rub". Ewww...anyway he looks like he's trying to fuck his guitar when he plays, it's funny.
Keller Williams has some amazing shit in comparison. OMG. I listened to his solo CD and was blown away. Daaaaamn! Check THAT out! Also, Yonder Mountain String Band is dope too. "Idaho" is a sick track...
So I felt if I was gonna dis on someone's band I had to offer the ones I thought were good to be fair
