so... wtf is it? how does it work?

is it basically limewire? is it even shareware?
Is there just as much a possibility of DLing spyware/adware?
do i need any additional hardware?

download a client like azureus. Then go to a website that links torrents such as torrenttreactor.net and click on the torrent you would like to download.

While you are downloading you will also upload small amounts so every person downloading a file helps keeping it alive for the rest of the world. Chances of getting spyware is small. I have downloaded hundreds of torrents and never gotten a virus or any kind of malware.

To elaborate, lets say i have a movie i wish to share with the world. I use my torrent client to seed the file to a web page that hosts torrents or using my own web server. Seeding is the same as uploading. When i upload i will keep uploading my file until at least one other person has downloaded the entire file thus acting as another seed. Eventually many people will be downloading and uploading said file removing the need for me to stay on line or buy costly server space to share files

So in essence a torrent is just a link for where to download that file.

All clients are free. azureus is nice but ABC is a little bit more user friendly. You can download anything via torrents. Movies, porn, games.

All you have to do is use a site such as isohunt and search for what you want and download it.

Bittorrent is different from limewire and other peer to peer networks.

It works like so:

There's a bunch of unrelated, random servers that host torrent files. These torrent files simply tell your computer where to find the file you want to download. It directs your bittorrent program to other people who are sharing the file. The program then downloads chunks of the file at a time, from different users, depending on what is available.

You can get viruses and spyware. Just make sure you're protected and you'll be fine. Don't download .exe files. You need no additional hardware, unless you want a larger harddrive with more space for your shit.

its free. It works. It works so well that microsoft tried to spread rumors to ruin it and then sell a shitty knock off they hadnt even programmed yet and weren't competent enough to make work.

I have well over $600 in pirated things thanks to bit torrent.

yeah, but I only recently learned that the public trackers I use are NOT very good. In fact they're pretty shitty. I just downloaded a whole game DVD yesterday in one day using demonoid. I normally just leave my PC on for a couple days until some slow-ass torrent downloads for me.

I don't get what to do with ISO files...  A lot of games and programs are ISO and they bug me.  Someone educate me on an easy way to work with these.  I tried but got aggravated after a half hour...

They're disk images - files that contain a complete copy of a disk, like a cd or dvd.

You can either burn them to a cd or dvd using a program like Nero, or you can "mount" them as virtual drives, which means you use a program to create a non-existent CD or DVD drive your operating system thinks is real, and run the ISO as a disk from there.

Two popular disk mounting programs are alcohol 120% and Daemon tools. Alcohol costs money, daemon tools is free, but alcohol is easily crackable, and a more powerful and diverse piece of software. Daemon tools is probably easier to use though.

Be careful - any program that fucks about with the ATAPI layer, like disk-mounting programs, can cause system instability or boot errors in certain Windows versions when performing major system changes, like installing or uninstalling a service pack, or doing a repair install.
