My friend met Tom Wolfe yesterday.

For those of you who don't know, Tom Wolfe is the author of the classic book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.

For those of you who haven't read The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test...wtf are you wasting your time for?!

Anyway, he came to speak at SUNY Purchase and she attended the lecture and he was walking around afterwards in his trademark white suit and white tie and she came up to him to ask a question.

My friend: "I'm curious...you wrote about what it's like to be on acid so so well..you got it perfect. Did you...partake in any of it?"

Tom Wolfe: "I started to...but you know, it's a very, very powerful substance, and I couldn't go too deep into it. You have to keep in mind I was also learning about it from someone [Ken Kesey] who had essentially blown out his visual cortex on the stuff, so there was no lack of detailed description for me to draw from."

I thought that was a cool tidbit.

EKAT was a good book, but I never really got into anything else of his.

Me either! I was surprised to see that his other books are pretty dryly written in comparison.

the pranksters all pretty much hated Wolfe, and thought he was a narc.

he has a collection of short stories called 'The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby' that is pretty good.

the book is a good read but I've always questioned how well someone could really know what is going on without partaking.
