green water!!! HELP!!!!
    #496372 - 12/19/01 10:42 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

I just prepared 12 1/2 pint BRF jars for inoculation, but a ran into what may be a BIG problem. I used a green towel to line the bottom of the pot I am boining my jars in. After checking on the jars 30 min after they started bioling, I noticed the towel turned the water green! SHIT! Does anyone know if this will ruin my jars? Should I innoculate them? Or, do I have to start over? I really don't want to have to start over because my mom should be home in about an hour and a half, and she obviously can't see what I'm doing.

You should be fine as long as the water didn't get into the jars. Doesn't matter if the water turned green or not. You don't want any water to get into the jars no matter what the color...lol I hope you kept boiling those jars....cause you needed to boil them a hell of alot longer than 30 minutes. And don't innoculate them til they have cooled down. Wait til the morning to do that.
