Spawn Jar Question
    #932148 - 10/04/02 02:10 PM (21 years, 9 months ago)

Is shaking a spawn jar directly after innoculation bad? I've read no to shake it until you see growth. Does shaking right away slow initial growth or does it somehow stifle it alltogether? Also, does birdseed have to be Pressure Cooked, or can it be steamed without problems, i've heard various thinks on that subject. THX and Peace

If innocing with agar wedges you are spose to shake to spread around mycelium , leaving micro pieces on as much media as possible . Helps speed up running  . Then after 15% colinization shake again  .

my personal opinion - not that it counts for much, is that you don't want to shake initially. I think the spores being condensed into a smaller area, provides easier germination for them. I could be wrong, this is only opinion.

I usually shake my grain when i notice about 10% colonization.

Hmm..  My friend innoculates then shakes the hell out of them.  They colonize in patches all over the place.
