    #4944531 - 11/16/05 11:16 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

So my i ran into my ex last weekend when i went down to party at her school (i made sure i ran into her) and he hangout and talked for a little bit and she told me she wants to hangout with me when she comes back for break next week. this was the first time we had talked in like a month so i am happy she wants to hangout. so...i want to have a fun/romantic day in the city. i know its getting cold so indoor thing would be cool. i was thinking like a museum (which one is the collest) and maybe a carriage ride threw downtown or anything you guys thing would be fun and would score me some points. also i was wondering if you guys no anyplace that would be good to eat at downtown that is kinda Italian food cause thats what she likes. even though i hate it i will put up with it for her. thanks guys

go to the museum of contemporary art over by the water tower and then head down to frontera grill on clark & ohio for dinner. horse carriage rides are for anniversaries and for when you're about to pop the question - I think that would be way too forward for now.

Take her to Maggiono's....

I just ate there last weekend when I was in the city. Thats some pretty good fucking italian food. And a SHITLOAD of it too....

Thats not the right spelling, by the way. If you really want it, I'll go check the take-out bag....

Its pretty casual. I went in jeans and sweater, and there were plenty of people there in t-shirts and stuff. I know its on Clark, but I dont know the cross street...Around Grand, but I dont think its ON grand...

I dont know if the Contempory Art museum is same as Art Institute? The Art Institute is one of my favorite things in Chicago. Tons of cool stuff there...And you can always check out the new Millenium park next door. Even though its cold as fuck right now....

Also, I'm a NERD, but I love the Field Museum....And they have tons of new stuff at the Aquarium I hear, but I havent been there in awhile....Planetarium is always good for making out w/ chicks....

thats the thing though. i'm not going to touch her. not even hold her hand or anything, i want to show her i'm just a friend. i think this would payout more in the end then me trying to mack with her all day. i want her to let her guard down not be worried about me kissing her all day. but i have yet to go to the park so maybe that would be cool also.

no - they are separate museums. http://www.mcachicago.org - the art institute is all good, but the mac is pretty wild.

I mean, you could go to all the usual tourist places or you can go to somewhere unique. personally, I'd go with unique.

I do recommend frontera grill over maggiano's - frontera grill is owned and operated by rick bayliss - an awesome chef. he had a tv show for quite awhile and is a bit of local celebrity. you'll see him there - the food is quite excellent. one of my favorite places. $20 - $30 a plate.

You're on the right track Mr.X. I'm sure whatever you decide to do, she'll be alright with it.

After the museum of contemporary art go to the Hancock Building (2nd tallest in the city; the one with Xs on the side just North of Watertower Place). You could pay, like $10, to go to the observation deck OR you can go to the restaurant/bar that's almost as high for free (and get a $6 beer or $8 fruity girly drink). The view is every bit as great as from the Sears, but it's in a more interesting part of town (and free). Sunset'll kick you squarely in the pants.

However, you might indeed want to reconsider the MCA and opt for the Art Institute instead.. Free admission (okay, there's a recommended donation and you don't want to look cheap) and much more immediately gratifying art to view. Their collection of Joseph Cornell boxes is second to none, so precious and worth anyone's patience, and its encircled by rooms with modern art's greatest hits: Monet, Rothko, and much interesting stuff in-between. Seriously, if there is such thing as date art, it is Joseph Cornell.

Joseph Cornell, Hancock Bldg. for expensive drinks and smooth jazz, followed by more wine 'n' dine and you will be set, my man.
