first time **5 pics**

ok. afoaf mixed 12 pint jars about 8 days ago with the brf/verm tek. 5 arcadian coast , 6 pes hawaiian , and 1 puerto rican. there is good growth. he innoculated in the four holes like the pf tek. the growth spots are almost touching in some jars. The puerto rican grows rather fast. the hawaiian started off slow and is catching up now. while the arcadian coast stayed about the same. When they are fully colonized he's planning on casing them. he's using pyrex glass bread dishes. he's planning on using two cakes per dish and topping them with vermiculite. he will let sit until it becomes a cake again(aprox. 48 hours) then move to his terrarium. its a 40 gallon fish/iguana tank. hes planning on putting about an inch of perlite on the bottom for humidity and then placing casings on top. can fit about four of these bread size casings in the terrarium. is the perlite idea good? What do you think his yield will be per flush? Thanks I will add pics of terrarium and jars colonized 8 days so far. ill post those in a few minutes.

dude take the foil off the jars they need gas exchange and keep them 80-85 degrees and dark this is best!

You really dont need to take the foil off, just takes a bit more time, the air will get in, its not that bad. Trust!

Jesus, my setup looks a lot like that (same quart jars, substrate, foil hanging, etc.), and mine have been colonizing for well over a month. They've grown slightly more since the pic, but they're STILL not fully colonized. Would taking off the foil TRULY help speed things up?

Orikal, the reason the bottom of ya jars aren't colonized is cause you probably have massive C02 buildup there.

It would be safe to remove the foil in my opinion to open up for gas exchange. Also, try turning the jars upside down for a few days to allow fresh air to reach the uncolonized portion of your cake.

No, the foil does not have to go over.. there are is a tek for putting the foil under called the Ramsey Seal or something like that.
