using ethernet?

at least in debian (and i'm assuming ubuntu has similar networking setup) you have to edit a file located at /etc/network/interfaces to set up your eth0 device, and then run 'ifup eth0' from the command line to activate it.

however, with a boot from CD, i'm not sure how you would edit those config files...

Yeah...Oh well.  Maybe next time I decide to reformat I'll go with Linux instead of XP :grin:

i change mine like once a week,but i'm trying not to keep these calender one's i've been making...

but i already changed the picture once,haha.

Speaking of mixing unstable and stable apt's... Mine got so screwed by mixing source+unstable+stable+aliened_rpms that I went to do an upgrade of my apt one time and BOOM. I oked the update of 150+ packages. Needless to say my distro didn't work after all that. That was using Kubuntu. I would reccomend Ubuntu/Kubuntu to everyone, it really does rock as far as linux distro's go (for simple desktops).

in ubuntu you can just run dhclient eth0 which will automatically bring the interface up and start the dhcp service for it.

akin to ifup eth0; dhcpd eth0
