. . . to be the Shroomery's official Spelling/Grammar Enforcer (SGE).

As SGE, I would have the authority to correct, warn, and/or punish those Shroomery members who exceed the boundaries of good taste by violating the rules of our language. I would have moderator privileges in all forums, under the stipulation that I moderate only the form, not the content, of posts. Perhaps the PHP hackers among the board leadership can come up with a new "Notify SGE" icon to allow members to report violations to me.

Before anyone jumps to the conclusion that their way of language is in jeopardy, let me assure you that only the most egregious errors will be acted upon. As SGE, I will write up a detailed language code of conduct, including possible enforcement actions for each violation, to be appended to the forum general rules. The most important points in this code of conduct will be as follows:
  • Capitalization errors, typos, and casual grammar (such as splitting infinitives or placing prepositions at the end of sentences) will be tolerated in all but the most extreme cases.
  • Punctuation requirements will be relaxed, as long as there are clear beginnings and endings of sentences, pauses (commas, parentheses, etc.) where necessary, and separate paragraphs in posts long enough to warrant them.
  • Errors common to the Internet, such as "to, too, two" and "there, their, they're" errors and abbreviations such as "r" for "are" and "u" for "you" will be corrected, and the poster will receive a strict warning via PM. Repeated offenders in this category will be banned. To be reinstated, banned members will have to demonstrate to me via PM, using example sentences, that they have reformed.
  • Utter incoherence will result in a ban until such time as the banned member presents me with a clear, correctly-written excuse via PM. Being under the influence of psychoactives, is, of course, a valid excuse. May God have mercy on the souls of those who are incoherent while sober, with no valid excuse.
  • The Shroomery already has in place a strict policy against minors registering for the forum. This policy will be amended to exclude not only those who are under eighteen years of age, but also those who write as if they are below eighteen.
  • As the Shroomery is a worldwide community, special leeway will be given to those members for whom English is not a first language. These members will, however, be required to declare this shortcoming in their custom titles in order to avoid confusion on the part of the enforcement staff.

    I appreciate all support in this backhanded bid for power. Even the most illiterate of the Shroomery proletariat may obtain amnesty in advance by posting their encouragement here. Thank you for your consideration.

    we haev too manie spelling nazi's as is....that wood just leed to feerce competition btwn the rest of them if you get erected to the position.

    In the meentime just sit back and eat some cubanzi mushrooms packed full of THC and you shood be able to handle it.

    The spell chek option is a great tool, and more poeple should use it, I agree. :smirk:

    I hait it when people mispell werds and use bad gramer it also gets rally annoying a lot of the timez to when they start to write in very long run on sentences that seem to go on forever with no puncuation and usually do not even add up to a valid point so i guess i too shood nominate you to be erected to this position :grin:
