San Pedro Identification!!

I know that San Pedro is commenly used for land scaping. I was at Wal-mArt ans i took a look at the cacti. But the thing is I have seen pics of San Pedro with long spines and some with short spines. These had long spines and they had the exact same shape as the ones i've seen in pictures. Sry for sounding newbish. Any help would be great. Sry no pic.

If it had long spines at a walmart, chances are it's not active, though once in a while someone gets a peruvianus.

i was just woundering if San pedro had long spines or if they are always like so close to the skin. i thought people shved them off. LOL!! It sux that they don't have them tagged.

I've never seen a San Pedro specimen with spikes longer than 1/4". Peruvian torch has noticeably longer spikes, but peruvian torch is a pretty rare specimen to be traded in a non-entheogen oriented outlet, esp one like Wal-mart. Not that it isn't possible, it'd just be quite wierd odds.

About three years ago I found a cactus at Home Depot labeled San Pedro. Long story short it quickly grew over three feet and then picked up a nasty scale infection.

To try and salvage it I cut it above the infection and allowed it to dry out, it quickly started bleeding black and I am assuming it is on its way out. Here is a picture I took showing the black ooze.

I have another cutting at another house and it seems to be growing fine, along with this cactus is another similar one in appearance that has a blue coloration. I'll try and track down pictures of those other cuttings.

Could this be the San Pedro?

anyway, that's not scale infection, it is weeping black rot... usually caused from overwatering.
and yes it looks like a pedro or at least trichocereus.

Sorry about bumping, haven't posted in a forum in many years.

But anyways the scale rot was before the plant started bleeding black.

The plant was cut and allowed to dry in the shade outdoors, during the drying process it begun to bleed.

hmmmm, your best bet is probably to keep the soil completely dry and hope for the best...
move the plant to a place with good air flow...

generally rot is caused by impropper growing conditions (stagnent air, overwatering, overly high humidity, or a combination of those conditions, etc etc)

i'm not entirely sure what causes this type of rot to be honest...

It was a cutting, so it was outside in Florida's humidity.

I figured what the hell i'll plant the little guy as I have a longer cutting at a different house that is doing fine. Today the Tropical Storm is drowning the guy in water...

He's done for.

I guarantee that the original poster found a grandiflora. Thats the only trichos I have ever found at W-m.
