I just realized that the whole story is really circular.

The robots are there because Miles Dyson invented them, or at least did the research and development that made them possible.

But, he only started the research because he got the chip from first Terminator's head.

It's a chicken vs. the egg conundrum.

I can't remember the movie too clearly but didnt he supposedly start it all a little later in life or something? The terminators came back from the future. Didnt they come back to try and stop him from causing the problem of AI?

No, that was a peripheral thing. In the first movie, the Arnold terminator is supposed to be killing Sarah Connor because her unborn son is going to be the military leader commanding the humans against the machines.

In the second movie, the Arnold terminator is protecting John (the son) and Sarah Connor from the liquid metal terminator. They also destroy all the work that Dyson is doing to create the AI.

Yeah I remember Arnold wanted to kill Dyson so I figured part of his job coming back was killing Dyson so the AI wouldnt be created as well as protecting John.

So basically Dyson got parts of the first terminator that came back from the future. So he had created the AI later in his life but he didnt know this. It all makes since, I think. :confused:
