I'm not sure if this is where I should put these but here goes. I make knives as a hobby and here are a few that I made:
This one is a replica of a 13th century viking dagger that was excavated a few years ago. The original was bronze with a human bone handle.
The blade was originally the chain from a 66 Harley that I pattern welded together. The pattern in the blade is the result of the different grades of steel being forge welded together. Since human thighbones are a little scarce around here I used a cow knee joint for the handle.
This was a christmas present for a friend of mine that is a Satanist...It's called the goatblade. The steel is 5160 with sycamore wood for the handle
This bowie knife was made for another friend of mine in Arizona. The handle is an antler tine and the blade is again 5160 steel

Glad that you liked it. The notch in the blad was hard to do because I don't use power tools to make these

I love the viking replica.I'm a bit confused as to how an old Harley chain turned in to that magnificent blade.I guess I don't understand the term "pattern welded" could you shed some light as to how a chain turned into a flat 1 piece blade?

Right on! The viking dagger really has that vintage look. It's cool you do this w/o power tools.
The only thing I didnt like was that the handle on the goatblade looks to much like a kitchen knife. Other than that, everything is just amazing.

Patternwelding is when you take different grades of steel, coat them in flux to prevent oxygen from getting at the steel and then heating it to the point that it is almost melting. You then use your hammer to nudge the steel together to form a new steel billet. You form the billet into the shape of the blade that you want without mixing the different grades up too much. When your blade is shaped and profiled, you put it into an acid bath to bring out the "grain" of your blade. The acid reacts differently to the different grades of steel, darkening some while not touching others.
That is what shows the grain of the steel. Some guys make some really cool patterns by following formulas and twisting and folding their billets certain ways to get certain patterns. With using chain, the pattern is never ever the same making each blade absolutely unique and uncopyable even by a master bladesmith.
The real beauty of patternwelded blades is that the more that you use them, the sharper they get. The softer steels get worn away while the harder ones don't which results in a microscopic serration on the cutting edge

Thor, thanks again for the kudos. I remembered talking to you at Caps about my blades and hoped that you would like them.
ODIN!!!How are you doing and I'm glad that I could help. Do you remeber those masks that you made at CAPS? I watched you mix it and stole the recipe :P and have been making them ever since. Oh yeah, tell Annie that I still have the rave bracelet that she made me that weekend.
McGirt, that is actually my retirement plan. I dream of the day when I can do this fulltime but for now I have too many bills to pay to be a struggling artist.
Madseason, the picture did not do it justice. That wood has an almost leather grain pattern that just pops at you. But thanks for the input.

My brother in law bought a cool authentic replica of a viking helmet, circa 1000ad. I was in Iceland this last summer and we tracked down a guy who makes them the way the vikings did, no modern tools, its very very cool 
Maybe you could look into making him a Viking sword, he paid almost $1200 for that helmet

LOL well it depends on the era. Most early viking cutlery was made of bronze and cast in stone molds. Later pieces were usually made of low quality iron but it could be easily done. I could make him a replica in either high quality steel or something more authentic. No matter which material that I use it's still a 200 hour project to make a sword so I hope he doesn't want one for next week :P
BTW unless your brother got the hood and mail with the helmet he got rooked. There's a guy here that makes the plain helmets for about $600 :P
