asatru and mushrooms?

just wondering if anyone knows of the link between mushrooms and the asatru (odenist) religion? i have been asatru for abut a year now and have just seen mention of mushrooms here and there but no one seems willing to write about them in detail. i have heard of a festival in Germany that involves shrooms and the asatru religion. My self being of German decent and wanting to get back to my roots both mentally and physically i feel that this is very important. so if anyone can help please do so!

i hear the vikings would consume the fly agaric mushroom
in order to make them go into thier terrifying "berzerker" state.
I know for a fact that Odin was suppost to be a shaman.

vikings did infact eat fly agaric mushrooms along with many others. The fly agaric however is mostly involved with "berzerking" I think which would have been out lawed soon after christianity started to take over (bastards)...I am not sure if there is any GOOD evidence on it..but personally I think that rune-wizards or runic wizards probably would have altered there state of mind if they could, it would make sense wouldn't it? rune-casting requires a meditative state of mind of course...

I have not seen all of it.. but to my understanding, atm. it is basically two men, talking about the connection 'of' shrooms, and religion.. (?) :P

Actually tropanes were sometimes used in paste form. Usually the person just became unhinged without any help. They donned a shirt of bear skin and felt that they had shape shifted to bear form. Hence the name ber (bear) serk (shirt)...Berserk = bearshirt.

Just a bit curious about "berzerking." Why would a viking choose to berzerk?

it's a cool movie which basically sets out to convince you that christeo-judaist religions are based upon entheogenic drugs (ie: spiritual drugs .. mushrooms) and celestial worship...

and that the current view of these religions is a total fuckup based upon real, provable, historical events that completely remolded them and literally 'defined' them in their (approximately) current state.

basically, in my opinin and words the undertone is: take mushrooms yourself and discover something that is and has been cloaked in taboos and kept secret from the majority of the population - at least in much of eurasia - for a long time.

It was a spiritual/mystical/honor bound thing. They used it to gain fame and remembrance. To the Norse a place in a heroic saga or song was the ultimate form of immortality. It was the ultimate expression of the Norse warrior's destructive power and fearlessness.
