Curious about bullet proof vest laws in Canada.
    #4719541 -

Is it legal to wander around with a bullet proof vest on, rather than a shirt (so it's completely obvious you have one on)?

It's totally legal as long as you paint "AIM FOR MY FACE" on both sides.

So... no one knows?

The reason I'm asking is my friend said he thought it was illegal, but I dunno. Why would they make it illegal for a citizen to help protect themselves?

You can wear a topless tutu if you want.
Why would you think you couldn't
You going to shoot someone with your vest?

I dunno, I guess. My friend said it was illegal so I was thinking maybe he knows what he's talking about.

How naive of me.

And then Jackass got canceled, eh? hehe...

Whats the point of a bulletproof vest with nothing over it? It almost makes painting ""AIM FOR MY FACE" on both sides." a bit redundant doesn't it?

I was hoping to avoid the stupid 'just wear a shirt over it' posts.

Ahh, I misunderstood your intention.

I wasn't thinking of why you mentioned no tshirt. For some reason, I thought you meant that having it in public view would somehow make a difference legally. Perhaps distantly related to a concealed/unconcealed weapon. Was quite confused...

You really meant that you didn't want answers sidestepping the legality. You wanted to know concretely, that if for instance a police officer saw it in plain view, would you be in trouble?

I tend to interpret things strangely. Didn't think of it as avoiding the question.

If you've been convicted of a federal felony its illegal to wear a bullet proof vest or body armor

"Legality

18USC931 Provides that: (a) In General.? Except as provided in subsection (b), it shall be unlawful for a person to purchase, own, or possess body armor, if that person has been convicted of a felony that is? (1) a crime of violence (as defined in section 16); or (2) an offense under State law that would constitute a crime of violence under paragraph (1) if it occurred within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States."

Hope that helps.

Do you think it would be the same in Canada?

I'll just assume it is. I guess I could always phone the cops and ask. :smirk:

elgr: Yes.

An American sees a man wearing a bullet proof vest and thinks
"I'll have to shoot him in the head"
A Canadian sees a man wearing a bullet proof vest and thinks...
"Oh look... an American"

I think you might be suprised about how willing the cops are to help you out with questions of what is legal and what is not. They don't want to waste their time arresting people.
