He's got some good shit. Alot of those tracks that are supposed to make you feel bad ass as you walk out of movie theaters are his. You just don't know it.

I have heard that BT might do alot of his production, but it's just a rumor.

And yes, garbage like 'We're going to dance all night to this DJ" sucks...

But that's not all he does.

Maybe you think this only because you caught him on the tail end of his career? He's not a "fake", he just got lost along the way. His older stuff is good, and will always remain classics in my book.

Well I don't suggest going to see him at a club. He REALLY bitches out now-a-days on the decks.

But it's SOME of his production that is cool, several times I've waited though movie credits to see what the name of a big beatish type song is, only to find it being written by him.

Transport era stuff was good back then. But mostly not because of his talent as a DJ, but because he was getting cutting edge tracks way before others where.

BT is someone on Profecto to check out. His track 'Firewater' stands out as some of the best of truly modern compositions. (And his live sets do not suck, as a matter of fact seeing him recently all I can describe his set as is 'Something that could not have been 5 years ago')

BT is the second in command at Perfecto Records. He is a very, very talented musician. He experiments with some really cool stuff and tries to incorporate a lot of new scientific ideas into his music.

Yea, his PR is currently trying to talk him up as the inventor of Trance. This is bull shit.

But some PHATTTTT breaks sets. Check out BT if you see him on a flyer, it's worth it.

There's some pretty good shit on there.

I mean I'm not saying the man is even close to my favorite artist. I'm not even saying he's my favorite artist on his label. (BT is)

But to say that all he does is "remixes great techno songs." is false.

He has SOME good shit out there, mostly the stuff he has done for movie sound tracks.

I just think that most people are not at the level of music dorkyness to know it. IE the types that sit all the way though movie credits to see who wrote what song. (like me and my wife do)

My wife makes trance and progressive, and it does not suck, as you can find in the link in my signature. It's just that ALOT of it sucks, if you don't know who to listen to, just like most forms of music.

As a matter of fact the Oakenfold music I am referencing is NOT his trance and progressive, it's his big beatish breaks he does for movie scores.

...Not anything he does for clubs/radio, as most of that I do not like. But saying that all he does is remixes of great teckno tracks is false.

Yea, I've been greatly disappointed in his recent (the last 3-4 years) sets also. Really back in the day he was a really good trance DJ, but that's because he owned the longest running and most profitable label, Perfecto. Thus he got all of the best tracks WAY before other DJs, so his stuff always sounded more advanced. (A while ago)

But now he realllly bitches out on the decks.

Good current stuff to check out by him is the production work he does for movie soundtracks. (most of it has this neo-big beat feel that I like)

He's an entertainer, nothing more. He used to spin good music pre-1997. His most famous mixes are actually two goa trance mixes, titled Silver and Gold. Search for them on Soulseek, they're good.

But around 1997 with Transport is when he really went mainstream and started spinning cheese trance anthems with the likes of Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, etc. From then on he became an entertainer DJ, focused on bringing in crowds and raking in money rather than focusing on good music.

trance = gay  :wink: i can stand some of it sometimes though. its kind of fun to listen on ketamine  :syringe: :tongue2: :thumbup:

but il admit oakenfold is not a complete peice of cheese. he has done some good production mainly his breaks remixes. check out: the faint - glass danse (paul oakenfold remix). and his remixes of dirty vegas' days go by were tolerable.

for a good mix check out: paul oakenfold on the essential mix live in havana, cuba. some of it sucks, and its more of a prog sound. but oveall its pretty good. the first track is the shit. i think you can d/l it from most p2p shares.

and there have also been alot of good releases on perfecto breaks.
